The handcrafted kitchen features granite work tops, a gas oven and hob, a fridge with freezer compartment, a Belfast sink and draining boards plus cupboards and drawers housing all the essential kitchen equipment. Walking through the boat, sliding doors partition a tastefully tiled bathroom with a glass-enclosed rain-shower opposite a fitted flush toilet and sink. Water is held in a tank on-board and electricity is generated by running the engine everyday for an hour or so. Full instruction will be given on arrivial. Finally, you’ll find privacy and a good night’s sleep in the warm and cushioned bedroom adjoining the bathroom and at the bow of the boat. Onsite The boat is moored on the tow path in central Skipton. Local restaurants and bars are within a short walking distance. If using Skipton as your base to explore the area, the train and bus stations are in the centre of town, giving access to popular attractions and hiking routes in the Yorkshire Dales. The Area Skipton Castle is one of Britains best preserved castles, surrounded by woodland. A vibrant market occupies both sides of the high street every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Often on Sundays there is a farmer's market in the canal basin. The friendly town is known as a gateway to the Dales and many hikers use Skipton as a base to explore the countryside. What's special about this boat There’s a novelty factor to living on board a narrowboat that we believe will add an element of adventure to your stay in Skipton. Canal boats are a living unit within their own right, but don’t worry, we’ll be there to run through the workings. Essentially, power isn't on tap, unlike we're used to in our homes. Power is supplied by on board batteries, which means appliances that we take for granted - such a hair dryers - can run the power supply down very quickly. If the power runs down the engine will need to be started to charge up the batteries and run for a couple of hours each day. Should you be in need of assistance we’ll be on call and happy to help out – just like any hotel. All you need to do is relax and enjoy the novelty of life on the canal. Blue Otter Skipton is available for static hire only. This means that during your stay onboard, the boat will not move from its mooring on the tow path. It's your floating home while you explore Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales. In Summer Blue Otter operates as a cruising holiday boat. Between each stay we use cleaning proceedures approved by health experts, such as disinfectants with 70% alcohol or higher. Guest access You will have the whole boat to yourself. It will remain stationary during your stay, and you can cook, dine and sleep onboard, just like any normal apartment. There are chairs and a table in the lounge area, as well as foldable chairs on board to bring out when the sun shines and enjoy reading and dining on the bow or stern areas, adding to your relaxing holiday experience. Other things to note Skipton has excellent train and bus connections from Leeds and Manchester. If you arrive by car, however, private parking is available a 10 minute walk away from the boat, or in Skipton's central public parking spaces. If you are planning to do day trips to the Dales, we can move the boat closer to the public parking along the tow path within central Skipton. Just let us know in advance.
