shepherd's hut in Acklam

Located on the Yorkshire Wolds, you can stay on our working farm, residing in our Off Grid Shepherd's Hut, waking up to the sights of sheep & cattle with a spectacular view that reaches as far as seventy miles! You'll be no more than 15 miles from York and 7 miles from Malton. Local pubs no more than a mile away, so you can get yourself a Yorkshire Ale followed by a good hearty meal. The space Our Shepherd's Hut sleeps four guests, it includes a double, single bunk above and another single bed that pulls out from underneath the double. This can be tucked away to create more space during the day. We provide bed sheets and pillows, but you'll have to bring your own sleeping bag and towels. We want you to enjoy the cosiness of our Shepherd's Hut, whether in summer or in winter, we have no doubt that you'll be plenty warm enough with the 3 kilowatt log burner inside. It's entirely off grid, the hut has a solar panel which gives light inside the hut as well as having a dimmer option for night time reading and a USB charging port. Go steady on the USB charging port on less sunny days! The Hut also has a kettle to heat water on top of the log burner and there's also a 1 ringed gas stove with a set of pans for cooking. Additionally you can bring your own kit if you want more gas rings, although we believe if you're creative the BBQ, gas stove and fire pit are adequate enough! With all crockery provided, there's plates, bowels, cups & knifes & forks in the Hut if you fancy doing an evening (or breakfast?) BBQ outside in fairer weather. We charge £8 a day for rental of the gas BBQ. There's also a continuous supply of tea & coffee topped up in the Hut for when you are ready to sit down for a Yorkshire brew. Outside is a sink for washing up and the hut comes with with cleaning equipment so you'll always be prepared for every meal. Bags of logs for the firepit or log burner are £10 a bag. If you would like a bacon sandwich for your breakfast we offer this with a yogurt & piece of fruit for £12 & we deliver it to your glamping pod – please book in advance if you would like this. Immediately outside of the Shepherds Hut, there is a tap for your water supply. In the wood adjoining the hut, there is a compost loo which is also shared by other glampers - (odour free btw!). There is also an off grid shower in the woods. This shower is also used by other glampers. The shower water is heated to the same level as a normal domestic shower, meaning you can comfortably wash in the shower. As it is a well ventilated shower shack (still adhering to modesty!!), we recommend making sure you have your clothes ready to change in to once you turn the water off. We do not have wifi in the shepherds hut itself, however the phone signal is very good in this area so you will have no trouble connecting to your 4G signal. Please note if you're wanting a boozy few nights away , this site is not for you, we welcome couples, families and solo travellers but we don't want people looking for a weekend of heavy boozing. We sell our own Lamb too, all our lamb is free range and grass fed outdoors on a healthy landscape. We value dealing directly with you so we are able to offer you good quality locally sourced produce, comfortable in the knowledge of exactly where your meat has come from. Our pasture reared Lamb is ready for your summer BBQ or hearty Autumn fill up! All our lamb is kept frozen so that it’s ready for when you want it. -Ask in advance for the lamb. Lamb Burgers x 4 in a pack £7.50 Lamb Chops x 4 or 5 in pack £10-12 Guest access Guests are welcome to walk through the farm fields with sheep in, but please ask as sometimes there are cows with calves so we will direct you the right way. We will also offer an educational guided tour of the farm if requested in advance for an additional cost. Other things to note Cyclists are welcome. We have a lockable storage unit for bicycles.
