Our 100 year old historic one bedroom adobe casita is newly renovated, but retains its Santa Fe charm! We're in a quiet neighborhood in the heart of the buzzing Railyard district, in walking distance to Santa Fe's sights and entertainment, and with easy access to the highway for day trips out of town. Our spacious casita is perfect for couples and families. This historic casita has solid adobe walls, nichos and other traditional New Mexico features. It has been renovated to let in plenty of light, so it feels spacious and bright. Wisteria foliage shades the bedroom window and you'll wake up to the sound of birdsong in the morning. Due to the unusually warm temperatures this summer, we have installed a window air conditioner in the bedroom to make the space more comfortable. We recently purchased a new queen bed, to enhance the comfort of our guests. We'd love feedback as to how comfortable it is! The mattress manufacturer - Tuft & Needle - was recommended to us - it's a small company in the Bay Area that makes nothing else but top quality mattresses. So far we've had excellent reviews from our guests! There are hardwood floors throughout. The kitchen is fully equipped with delicious new granite counters, as well as a gas stove and oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle, and double sink. The bathroom is brand-new; and there is a comfortable living room with a couch (that makes into a bed) and an easy chair to lounge on. We can easily accommodate 3 people as the casita is very spacious. Two can sleep on the queen bed n the bedroom, and there is room for one adult (or two children) on our new upgraded sofa bed in the living room. The casita is about 600 sq ft in size. We have a sunny patio area for guests, with chairs and a table, for morning coffee or simply soaking up our New Mexico sun. Winter is beautiful here, with most days sunny and crisp - you can often sit out in the middle of the day even in December and January! We live right next door to the casita, so look forward to meeting you and getting to know you a little! We can offer help in terms of outings, food, logistics, whatever you want. We do both work full-time, but we love to visit with our guests as much as we are able. This is the best neighborhood in Santa Fe! Quiet residential neighborhood but right in the middle of everything. I walk to the farmers' market in the Railyard every Saturday (also open Tuesdays in the summer/fall). Nearby shops, restaurants, cafes, museums, and the plaza are all easily accessible on foot. A great neighborhood attraction is the Violet Crown - 5 minutes walk from here - a cinema combined with a gastro-pub. You can choose from 50 kinds of beer and then take your beverage into the movie with you, if you wish! Also nearby is the Jean Cocteau Cinema (owned by author George R.R. Martin) which shows classic films and regularly has live events, including live music performances, comedy nights, and drag shows. The Center for Contemporary Arts Cinematheque is just 1.5 miles away for those interested in independent film, poetry, visual arts, and discussions with artists (their Living Room Series) The Railyard also has ten great art galleries, as well as terrific restaurants, a brewery, an ice cream shop, an REI store, a coffee shop, a science-fiction/fantasy bookstore (also owned by George R.R. Martin), and more. There is easy access to several city bus lines, and the Railrunner commuter train station is 8 minutes walk from here. The airport shuttle also stops at the train station. For day-trips, you do need a car. But, we're located very near the main thoroughfares (St. Francis and Cerillos Road), so it's easy to hit the road. We have one off-street parking space for guests. Parking is not allowed on our street but there are usually spaces available on the street one block to the west of us). We care deeply about the environment, and just recently installed solar panels on the casita, so all our electricity is being generated by the sun! We also have an Electric Vehicle Level II charger for guest use. We avoid toxic chemicals, buy organic coffee, and dry all our sheets and towels in the New Mexico sun This is a great space for a family with a small child. The bedroom doesn't share a wall with anyone else, and there's lots of room for crawling and toddling. The separate living room means that parents don't have to tiptoe around once baby is asleep! Our new sofa bed in the living room has plenty of space for 2 children - it is just a little smaller than a regular double bed size. Every season has its attractions here, although fall and winter are exceptionally beautiful. May and June are usually the warmest and driest months - but since we're at 7,000 feet, it's rarely all that hot here! Summer is the rainy season, so we often get afternoon thundershowers.
