Guest access The previous owner of the farm had the first name "Amalie" – what could be more obvious than calling the farm Malchens Hof. When we discovered the house, we were amazed at the very good original state of preservation and had it listed as a historical monument. At every point of the house you will experience the 1920s on the Szczecin Lagoon – look forward to a journey through time without having to sacrifice the comforts of today. Malchens Hof is located in Gegensee, which is a district of the municipality of Ahlbeck. Not to be confused with the Kaiserbad Ahlbeck on Usedom. Gegensee is a village with typical colonial houses on the edge of a lake, which Frederick the Great had drained into the lagoon near Rieth, 5 km away, to gain land. 100 settler families were settled, who built half-timbered houses around the former lake, which can still be seen today. The wide landscape, now called Fenn, still gives a hint of the lake. Today, the Fenn is the largest growing limestone bog in Germany, 430 meters wide and 540 meters long. Hiking and cycling trails along the Fenn lead to the Szczecin Lagoon in the small village of Rieth am See. The tranquil inn "Zum Seegrund" in the neighboring village of Ahlbeck offers you delicious regional cuisine. But the region also has a lot to offer. The Riether Winkel and the entire Szczecin Lagoon are located in the middle of the "Szczecin Lagoon Nature Park." Here you can take the most beautiful cycling and hiking tours "Around Lake Neuwarper." The rental bike will be delivered directly to the vacation home. A cutter takes you across the lagoon and you can discover the island of Usedom on the horizon. How about a cooking class or vegetarian spreads and fresh bread in the Gesundhaus Klatschmohn, a horseback ride in the Fennhof Ludwigsburg or a trip to the many small and original lagoon beaches from Altwarp to Ueckermünde. The Riether Winkel region and the entire Szczecin Lagoon offer you a dreamlike relaxing holiday in an untouched landscape between forest and water, far away from the tourist strongholds. Other things to note The best way to reach Gegensee is by car (rental car). The nearest train station is in Eggesin. From here you can reach Rieth by taxi in about 15 to 20 minutes, and from Rieth you can reach your house in Gegensee in about 10 minutes. Please note if you are traveling by train: there is no grocery store in the village. These would have to be ordered online in advance, e.g. at mytime or purchased before starting the taxi ride.
