SMITTEN at The Appleton Retreat is a contemporary near off grid cabin that offers all of the comforts of home in total privacy, including excellent WIFI. The Appleton Retreat encompasses 120 acres hosting seven unique retreats. To the south is the Pettengill Stream, a resource protected area. To the north is the Nature Conservancy's 1,300 acre preserve and Newbert pond. If you need a time out and desire to embrace nature's way, Smitten is the perfect place to experience a memorable getaway. The space SMITTEN is beautifully constructed western red cedar cabin. A gorgeous bathroom features a cast iron clawfoot tub. It has a well equipped kitchen, and a screened in porch with a gas grill. It is heated by a gas fireplace that adds to the warm toned ambiance. A large deck extends the living area. The Rock Hollow location offers total privacy far away from the other Retreats, amongst large trees, boulders and wildlife. The Pettengill Stream is nearby where there are two kayaks available for water exploration. Although Smitten does NOT have its own hot tub, guest may book the private sauna and wood fired cedar hot tub at an additional charge. Smitten has excellent WIFI. Guest access Guests are welcome to use the wood fired cedar hot tub and sauna located on the trail map near Empire. Once you arrive, or the morning of your arrival, just let us know when and we can fire them up for you. There is an additional charge of $50 for the hot tub and $35 for the sauna. Other things to note Your dog is welcome so long as it behaves well off leash and plays well with other dogs. We do charge an extra fee of $50.00. (There is a two dog limit and the charge is $65.) The Appleton Retreat is a great place for all seasons. Bring your cross country skis and snow shoes to enjoy those clear cold snowy days. The pond.... OR IS IT A LAKE trail starts at Braeburn and leads to Newbert Pond. It is approximately a 30 minute walk through a well defined forested trail on Nature Conservancy's 1,300 acre preserve. To the south is the Pettengill Stream which The Appleton Retreat property borders. It is a huge 40 mile aquifer. The stream, albeit not very wide is navigable by kayak, which we provide. (In the draught of 2020 it was NOT navigable in the summer months.) In wintertime cross country skiing is great.
