The Farm By The Lake - The Log Cabin (Mae’s Cabin)

Historic Lakeside Log Cabin | Private Trails & Fireplace Step back in time without leaving modern comfort. Built by the Davids family, & Originally the home of our founder, naturalist Richard C. Davids, this hand-hewn log cabin offers the most iconic retreat experience on the property. Perfect for family reunions or friend getaways. Large picture windows overlook Lake Lomond, and the electric fireplace, it is the ultimate sanctuary for reflection, creative writing, or a peaceful family getaway. The space Sleeping for 6: The cabin features two cozy bedrooms. One room holds two full-size beds and a twin; the second offers two twin beds. A pull-out couch in the living area provides extra flexibility. Full Kitchen & Bath: Unlike our more primitive seasonal cabins, the Log Cabin is fully equipped with a kitchen (stove, oven, fridge, and coffee maker) and a private bathroom. Year-Round Retreat: Fully heated and air-conditioned, making it a perfect base for summer paddling or winter cross-country skiing. The cabin is a non-housekeeping cabin. This means that if you stay for more than a day you will have to do some cleaning yourself, we do not come in and clean until you leave. Upon leaving we do expect you to leave the cabin as clean as you found it, all garbage to be removed from cabin and put into provided dumpster, sweep floors, and pull sheets from used beds. Guest access Your 80-Acre Playground When you stay at the Log Cabin, you aren't just renting a room—you are gaining access to the entire Farm by the Lake grounds. We encourage you to wander, explore, and breathe in the fresh northern air. Included with your stay: Lake Lomond Access: Head down to the private dock where a community canoe is available for your use (seasonal). It’s the perfect way to spot the local loons or enjoy a sunrise paddle. Nature Trails: Three miles of maintained trails wind through the property. In the summer, they are perfect for hiking and birdwatching; in the winter, we groom them for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Shared Spaces: You are welcome to use the large community picnic shelter, the outdoor fire pits (perfect for s'mores!), and the charcoal grills provided at each cabin. Wildlife Viewing: Keep your eyes on the "picture windows"—it is very common to see "friendly wildlife," including deer and bald eagles, right outside your door. Other things to note There are other cabins at The Farm By The Lake, so there may be other guests staying nearby. Other Things to Note (The "Housekeeping" Vibe): We are a mission-driven non-profit. To keep our rates accessible, we operate as "housekeeping cabins." Guests are asked to remove their own trash, sweep the floors, and pull sheets upon departure. This communal spirit helps us preserve the land for generations to come.
