Whether on the coast, called the Cote Vermeille by famous painters for their unique color, or in the hinterland, where vineyards slowly rise to the heights of the Pyrenees, there is much to see and do in this region. Friends of Romanesque architecture will get their money's worth, as will lovers of long sandy beaches and divers on the cliffs. The region has a long history; Beginning with the primitive people who settled 450,000 years ago near Tautavel via the Cathar castes, which show the eventful history of the area and which invite visitors to visit, to the artists whose works are in the museums of Ceret and Banyuls sur Mér can be seen. For hikers and mountain bikers the area is ideal. Above the village, the GR10 hiking trail passes by
