Description
If you're looking for a break with family or friends in North Yorkshire, let's talk. Deer Park is a much loved house with a long history. Today it is a comfortable base for a break with as much adventure, relaxation, romance and celebration as you might want. Set in 20 acres of Capability Brown parkland the house sleeps 10 people, in 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, with a huge kitchen diner and 4 more reception rooms. Dog friendly. Less than 30 minutes to York, the coast and the moors. The space An ideal house for family gatherings, or friends' reunions, the Deer Park was built in 1767 as a folly for Capability Brown's park design in Scampston Deer Park. Originally it was a tea house and gamekeeper's cottage; these days, it is a spacious holiday home. The house is big enough for everyone to have space of their own, maybe in the grand upstairs drawing room, with 16 foot decorated ceiling, gothic windows and huge fireplace. The large squashy sofas here mean it's an ideal place to curl up with a good book and admire the view across the park to the 'big house' - Scampston Hall. Or perhaps take the book downstairs to the sitting room, a social room with widescreen TV (Freeview), DVD player, log burning stove and pretty views into the garden. Next door the small breakfast room has an open fireplace and a large library of board games and DVDs. The huge kitchen diner has space for everyone to gather - to cook or perhaps just unwrap fish and chips from the chippy in the village. Either way, you'll find all the equipment you need plus your choice of a two oven Aga or electric oven & hob, tall fridge freezer (plus extra freezer in the larder). Extra TV, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, food processor - they're all here. There are six bedrooms, which include two King size doubles, two twins (both of which can become super king doubles) and two singles. One twin bed is on the ground floor with an en suite shower room, excellent for anyone with mobility problems. Upstairs the other rooms share two bathrooms, both of which have baths and showers (one shower over bath, one separate cubicle). Please note: one single room is accessed through either bed 2 or through bed 4. The other single room has a raised platform bed that is 6 foot long so is not suitable for very tall people! On the practical side, Wifi is available throughout the house, and we have a bootroom with a washing machine/dryer as well as a larder. Outside the house has a lovely enclosed garden with patio and garden furniture. The parkland around the house is yours to enjoy; it is managed very lightly and has been parkland for hundreds of years so it is very rich in wildlife and rare species. Please note there is a beck running on one side of the park so small children should be supervised if playing out in the park. Up to three dogs are very welcome, although we ask that they remain downstairs to give our cleaning team a chance to get things straight at the end of the visit! Guest access The whole house (plus garden and 20 acres of parkland) is available for the exclusive use of guests.
