The space THE COTTAGE THE LIVING ROOM: The cosy core you'll return to each evening: log burner crackling, dark wooden ceiling, leather sofa where you can settle in with a book, board games or watch a film while the fire warms your feet. A large basket of logs sits ready to keep the fire burning through the evening. THE KITCHEN & DINING: The kitchen opens completely into the walled garden with full-width bifolding doors. In summer, fold them back and the cottage breathes: eat breakfast on the stone patio, leave them open while you cook dinner, watch your dog wander between garden and kitchen as evening light stretches long. In winter, close them against the storm and the space transforms. Vaulted ceilings overhead, underfloor heating warming your feet from below. Sit at the dining table with hot chocolate in hand, watching the weather move across the garden while the warmth holds around you. WOOD FIRED HOT TUB: The tub sits on the stone patio just outside those bifolding doors, tucked beneath lattice and climbing plants. Above, unobstructed stars. Most people love the theatre of it: building the fire, tending it, the anticipation of warmth creeping in. You can sit at the dining table with a glass of wine while you tend the fire, or play chess at the 19th-century stone chess table in the garden while you wait. When the water is as hot as you want it (not lukewarm like most hot tubs - actually hot), step in. The fire keeps the warm water flowing as you sink deeper. Woodsmoke mixes with country air. Steam rises into the cold. Stay there after a long walk, after dinner, into the night - as long as you keep the fire fed, the warmth holds. We provide all the logs for the hot tub. UPSTAIRS: A skylight brings Yorkshire sky into the bedroom. Beneath original stone walls and exposed timber beams sits a king-size bed dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets, flanked by French antique marble bedside tables and reclaimed wood drawers. Wool carpet underfoot, natural light spilling in. THE BATHROOM: A walk-in wetroom with stone walls and underfloor heating that warms your feet the moment you step out of the shower. Egyptian cotton towels, Aesop hand wash, luxury sustainable essentials. THE GARDENS: Both gardens are fully secure and entirely yours. The rear garden has the wood-fired hot tub, BBQ and an early 19th-century stone chess table waiting to be set up. The front is a rose garden with a rose arch opening onto the quiet village road - just five steps to the quiet local pub opposite. PARKING: Private parking for two cars tucked behind the cottage, or unlimited free parking on the village street in front. DESIGNED FOR DOGS We designed the ground floor to work with dogs, not fight against them. Stone floors with underfloor heating (warm underfoot, easy to wipe clean after muddy walks), a leather sofa, and a hose in the garden for washing mucky paws after countryside rambles. Both gardens are fully fenced with a gate between, so well-trained dogs can roam freely and safely. Walk from the front door with off-leash routes in loads of places. Arrive and stretch out with a lovely 15-20 minute circular up to the church with views across the countryside. Longer walks head towards Birdsall through woodland and fields. OS Maps provided. The pub opposite is dog-friendly. So are many places in Malton: The Talbot even offers a doggy menu and several shops have dogs snoozing in the corner. We provide dog bowls, blankets, towels, and poo bags. A handmade wooden stair gate helps keep dogs downstairs (or upstairs when appropriate). Upstairs has wool carpet for guest comfort, so please only bring dogs upstairs if they will not damage the carpet. We welcome up to three small dogs or two large dogs at no extra charge. You know your dog best - our photos show the actual space. VILLAGE LIFE This is not a secluded retreat (although it can feel that way). It is a private cottage where you can step into rural village life at any moment you choose. The pub opposite is five steps from the rose garden gate and people will say hello when you walk your dog.
