Description

In Stolac, in the Brade neighborhood, there is a vakuf of Hajj Junuz-age Mehmedbašić, declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2006. It is named after the name of its last vakif who vakufed the house. This street was part of the old neighborhood that was once called Hamam Mahala, due to the proximity of the public bath hamam. The house complex consists of: a house with a balcony, a mutvak or summer kitchen, a new house, a courtyard with courtyard walls and a garden. The space Mehmedbašić's house functions as a guest house with a capacity of 30 beds, where you can spend the night and feel the atmosphere of the houses of the Herzegovina region with a wonderful view of the panorama of Stolac and the Old Town of Vidoški. Access to the residential unit is achieved through a cobbled alley that represents the middle between the public space, the street, and the private part of the house and the courtyard. The bedrooms exude cleanliness and tradition, from sehar and Bosnian rugs, to old front doors, gates and kettles. From one of the rooms, which also contains bio air conditioning, you can go out to the balcony, perfect for drinking morning coffee, from where on the left there is a private bathroom, and on the right you go down the steps to the courtyard.   The accommodation also includes a shared summer kitchen in the courtyard, or as it used to be called, a mutvak. The new house consists of  4 rooms, traditionally decorated, with three double beds each, two rooms also have a bio-climate. Considering the traditional construction, Herzegovinian stone houses are perfect natural insulators, so during summer days, air conditioning is not necessary. Guests also have a large garden with a view of the imposing towers of the old town of Vidoski.
