For nature lovers, hikers and those looking for quiet holidays and slow living experiences in a NATURA environment in the peaceful nature of Apano Meria, Syros. The building has an area of 30sqm, is representative of the local traditional architecture, unique in its kind, has storage boxes in the stone walls that narrow to the ceiling, looks like a cave & is very cool. It consists of 2 rooms, the main room with the double bed and the auxiliary room with the built-in kitchenette, the fireplace and the toilet/shower in one unit. The accommodation is functional with elegant interventions, exudes a pleasant feeling to the guests, made with traditional building materials. The windows have a clear view of the sea and the surrounding estate. There is the necessary quality equipment for a comfortable and pleasant stay (linen, cookware/dishes, appliances & materials for preparing meals, refrigerator, electric stove, TV, wifi, floor fan, no a/c allowed, windows with protective screens, wooden patio furniture, sunbeds, folding armchairs, etc.). Outside there is a courtyard with a reed fence protected from seasonal winds (meltemia), around there is local dry vegetation from phrygana and shrubs. The accommodation is in the countryside, in the natural environment, on a dry stone estate, next to another property, but it is an autonomous unit with its own independent entrance, with direct access to the estate & parking. The area is sparsely populated and poorly structured. Here we don't hurry, we walk barefoot, we shower outside in the yard, we laze around, we get pleasantly bored & we chew on local goodies. The sunrise will amaze you. Andros, Tinos, Mykonos & Delos emerge on the horizon. You will enjoy the tranquility in a magnificent simple landscape where the breeze smells of thyme & sage. A climate resilience tax has been imposed on all accommodation per night, which is exclusively borne by guests. The amount of €8 is already included in the total cost of booking the accommodation and is attributed to the State. Guest access The house is located in Chalandriani, Syros, in the northern part of the island, 9 km from the port of Ermoupolis, the road is unpaved in good condition with direct access to the property. The area is not served by public transport and your own means of transport is necessary for transportation. You can rent either a motorcycle or a car in Ermoupolis at one of the many car rental agencies. The taxi to/from the port costs around 12€-15€. Ano Meria (the northern part of the island) has no shops for the supply of food & groceries. For food there are taverns in Ano Syros, Papouri & San Michalis where you will enjoy a magnificent sunset. Near us, at 300 meters, there is a tavern, a solution preferred by those who do not want to move. Access to the secluded beaches of the area is through hiking trails. Other things to note For hikers there are many marked trails in good condition with the most exciting ones being near us. From these routes you also have access to the northern deserted beaches of Syros for those who want isolation and tranquility. Consult hiking maps we have at the property & get information from local bodies such as the Syros Hiking Group or the Apano Meria Organization website. Chalandriani is a small settlement on the northeastern side of the island. A short distance away is the prehistoric acropolis of Kastri. In this area as well as in the surrounding islands, the Cycladic Civilization flourished 5,000 years ago. Ancient tombs with important finds were found and excavated around here. Apano Meria with the Natura protected area is a unique ecosystem, an ark of biodiversity. The few inhabitants coexist harmoniously with nature, cultivate the arid fields & take care of their livestock. Simple life, simple life. Forgotten performances, images taken from other times, forgotten smells, sounds & tastes invite you to live experiences away from the dull everyday life. Try summer vegetables of local seed variety, dry cultivation that are watered with the sea breeze, live a taste experience for a few. Look for herbs, listen to the buzz of the bee, the whipping of the wind, see the falcon, the partridge, the domestic animals under the relentless sun, observe the beetle, the lizard, the tireless ant, turn back the clock and try a vacation proposal out of the ordinary. Pet the donkeys in the adjacent fields, feed the cats, listen to the bells from the domestic animals, see how they harvest the barley, how the neighbor takes care of his beehive & experience the harvest. The summer meltemi is a balm, it soothes & cools the body. Walking in the pristine serene nature is an opportunity for contemplation. Feel the sense of isolation. Indulge in the magnificent view and the absolute tranquility of the landscape, let go of your worries, listen to nature. When night falls, the sea and the moon, accompanied by the cricket & the owl with the smell of wet dry grass diffused around. See the lights from the villages on the opposite islands, the course of the ships, the moon rising through the sea & observe the night sky away from urban light pollution. The sunrise through the sea will fascinate you. Take the paths to the prehistoric acropolis or those that lead to the beautiful and pristine northern beaches. Apano Meria has many secrets to discover. Dare because the smell of thyme & incense from the festivals in the many Catholic chapels await you. Registration Details 00001006871
