Description
Luxuriously comfortable and highly sustainable, the Cottage at Lupton House B&B, combines modern amenities with traditional character and charm. Situated on the owners' 3 acre small holding and surrounded by stunning countryside in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The ideal getaway to relax and unwind or to spend time with family or friends. All with the added bonus of a complimentary breakfast. Multiple night discounts, wedding party package available. The space The Cottage was built and decorated to the highest standards with solar panels, super insulation and rain water harvesting to reduce it’s carbon footprint. The floors downstairs are made from solid oak and upstairs there are luxuriously soft carpets made with pure undyed British wool. Bedrooms are beautifully furnished with a mix of antique and contemporary features, scrumptious feather duvets and pillows and crisp white egyptian cotton bed linen. The downstairs double bedroom has a solid oak king-sized bed and french doors opening onto decking overlooking the orchard and kitchen garden. It has an ensuite with heated stone floor and large ‘wet room’ style shower. The light and spacious south-facing sitting / breakfast room with sofa, sink unit and kitchen table is also downstairs. This room is equipped with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster as well as the television. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with antique French double bed and views over the orchard and kitchen garden with rolling hills beyond. The twin bedroom has antique single beds and the bathroom a heated stone floor and a cast-iron bateau bath. Guests can chose between three outside seating areas – a south-facing York stone patio at the front of The Cottage (wonderful for breakfast on a sunny morning) or decking overlooking the orchard and kitchen garden to the rear (ideal for a quiet evening drink). Guests also have their own picnic area in one of the paddocks where there is a gas Weber BBQ and wooden picnic table and chairs. Breakfast includes homemade granola, organic Greek yogurt, cereals, bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and tea and coffee. Although there is no cooker, there is a microwave oven, fridge and toaster inside the Cottage and a large gas Weber BBQ with hob on the patio outside. This is in addition to the BBQ in the guests picnic area in the bottom paddock. The Cottage is equipped with saucepans and a frying pan etc. Guest access Guests enter The Cottage from the gravel driveway through a wrought iron gate. The Cottage front door is on the right. Guest are welcome to explore the 3 acre small holding - visit the bantams in the Orchard or the lambs and sheep in one of the three paddocks or relax in the enclosed Kitchen Garden with box-lined beds of organic fruit and vegetables. Other things to note Whilst refurbishing both Lupton House and The Cottage to the highest standards of comfort, owners Anna and Malcolm have managed to maintain the characterful elements of the original farm workers’ cottage whilst building to the highest levels of environmental performance. The walls and windows are all super-insulated, water is heated by solar panels, electricity is generated by photovoltaic panels and rain water is collected for use in the main house. The Cottage’s solid oak floors were supplied and fitted by a local family business and the Brockway’s award-winning, ethical and environmental rare breeds carpet upstairs is made from pure, undyed, British wool. Much of the furniture is antique or reclaimed and the breakfast is either home-grown organically, locally sourced or fairly traded. Plastic soap dispensers are nowhere to be seen. Rather, stone soap dispensers are re-stocked with lavender hand-wash made on a local lavender farm and bought in bulk. Ten pounds from every booking goes towards supporting orphaned children in India.
