Drumblair - a peaceful Hebridean Island location

Recently renovated to a high standard, our traditional detached croft house offers guests the opportunity to experience the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of the west coast of Lewis. There are stunning walks and white sandy beaches nearby. It’s close to many areas of historical interest including the Doune Broch, the Gearrannan Black House Village and The Callanish Stones. It’s also a 10-minute walk from the local pub. The space Drumblair is a large, self-contained crofthouse with garden in the small harbour village of Doune, Carloway. It takes its name from the Crescent in Inverness where our parents lived when first married. It was built by our grandfather c.1920 and sympathetically renovated by us in 2020. We hope both he and our parents would have approved of the work we have done. Other things to note This is our dearly loved family home and we hope that you enjoy its space, peace and quiet. Our house is situated on a croft and our policy is no dogs are allowed.This is because of the proximity of sheep to the house at certain times in the year and for guests who have dog allergies. There are beautiful drystone walls around the house, some more than 100 years old and others built in 2019. We knocked some unsafe buildings down but put the stone to use. The old 2-metre high wall is that of the original blackhouse or ‘taigh dubh’ which was on the site and the small recesses show that it was inside wall of the house. We ask that children - and adults - do not to climb on the walls for safety reasons. It’s also worth noting that Doune, Carloway is 30 minutes from major supermarkets but we have an excellent village shop 2 minutes away by car. If you have an emergency the best action is to call 999.
