Hello! My name is Hannah. I'm eager to pay off my home so I rent out my rooms. You'll likely be sharing this space with me and maybe another guest. This renovated farmhouse is for the traveler who cherishes cozy spaces and a relaxing, care-free time. Ideally located in the SUBURBS of Chicago, this well-decorated farmhouse room is ready to accommodate 2 people. This cozy room was beautifully decorated by my best friend and it rocks that Joanna Gaines / Magnolia vibe. I'm looking for a long term renter - at least three moths to stay. Ideally - a quiet professional woman or female student. Please message me about long term stays. THE NEIGHBORHOOD This 1080 sqft home is warm (not temp wise, just in atmosphere!), clean, quiet, and is located in a safe, mature neighborhood in the suburbs of Chicago. I'm good friends (practically family with some neighbors). They watch the place like a hawk (because they're retired and bored, not because of the area!) and know that I AirBnb my home. My neighbors are very friendly and if they see you on a walk or the front porch, they'll likely greet you and smile. SHARING IS CARING The space is for a private room. Everything else is shared, so keep that in mind if that's not your jam. Shared spaces: Nice-sized comfortable living room, fully-equipped kitchen, prepped dining room, a bathroom with bath, washer + dryer, and an amazing "want-to-stay-here-forever" front porch. OLD AS THE HILLS It's incredibly hard to manage expectations on AirBnb, but I'll do my best with this. My home is 135 years old. The floors creek. The stairs are steep. The doors sometimes creek. All the rooms are upstairs and in close proximity to each other. This is not the ideal 'snuggle with my bae for the weekend' space. The stairs inside my home are pretty steep and narrow - please exercise caution when using. This house is not for the rowdy and reckless. I do provide earplugs, an area rug, and fans to help, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this house is 100+ years old and is chatty. SUBURBS Just a remind that is space is located in the city of West Chicago and NOT in the west section of downtown Chicago. To get downtown, you'll need to talk 10 minutes to the Metra Train Station and then take a 55 minute ride to downtown (Ogilvie Station). You can also catch an Uber that will run you about $55. PROXIMITY Most people are coming to visit people at Wheaton College, work at Fermilab, visit attraction downtown, or have an event/conference in Geneva or St. Charles. This space is an ideal hub for the above. Fermilab in Warrenville - 12 mins Fermilab in Batavia - 14 mins Wheaton College - 14 mins Wheaton Academy - 4 mins Pheasant Run Resort - 8 mins Geneva - 12 mins St. Charles - 13 mins Downtown - 1 hour drive/Uber or 55 minute train ride Costs of train: West Chicago to Wheaton (Wheaton College): $4.25 West Chicago to Ogilvie (Downtown): $7.25 West Chicago to Geneva: $5.50 During the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), you can get a weekend pass for $10 (this pass is good for the entire weekend). You will want to download the Ventra app. This app allows you to purchase the tickets on your phone and not worry about having cash on the train and also losing your ticket during your commute. KIDS AND STUFF I have no kids I am a non smoker and do not allow drugs or smoking on the premises. I do own the most adorable Labradoodle (Ace). She's hypoallergenic, friendly, and a happy pup. YOUR ROOM Space is for a bedroom with a single bed with quality linens and bedding, space for your clothes, extra pillows and blanket, a phone charger, snacks, water, iron, and mirror. There's a SmartLock on the bedroom door for added privacy when you leave the home. HOME CULTURE This is a quiet home. I work from home. BECAUSE I LOVE YOU - All linens and towels are supplied. - Toiletries are provided as well. - Wifi - Need a fan for the noise? I got that! - Fridge space - Free parking (for one car) - Local and city recommendations SELF CHECK-IN Whether I'm in town or not, I''ll be ready for your arrival and will provide self check-in details the day you need them. There will be other guests in the other bedrooms during your stay. LESS THAN FIVE STAR REVIEW COMMENTS I have great ratings but that doesn't mean ALL of the reviews have been five stars. There's an element of truth to all of them (mostly), and in this section I want to address them so you can understand the validity of them. Ants - During the summer, an occasional wood ant will be found in the Farmhouse. Probably a half dozen ants are spotted each summer. If you are allergic to ants or are bothered by them, I would NOT recommend you book this during May-October. Location - Some were upset that I wasn't located in Downtown Chicago or that I was too far away from a place they were wanting to visit. I try to make it clear in the listing how far away I am from main places. I'm happy to provide drive time prior to bookings. Dusty room - Guest was correct. I had work done in a room (custom trim) and the dust from the plaster continued to settle for weeks and weeks. When they visited, I had failed to vacuum the dust off the bed and lamps. My bad. I'm glad they pointed this out. Unwelcoming - It all came down to lack of communication and guest confusion and if it hadn't resulted in a bad rating, it would be humorous. I'm friendly and always super happy to have guests in my home. I really felt so bad about that miscommunication during our initial greeting. Check-in - The guest messaged me and told me the check-in issue was her fault (she knocked on the wrong door) and that it wasn't my directions. Regardless and funnily enough, she still gave the checkin process 4 stars. Temps / Sticky door - I empower guests to change the thermostat to their liking (I'm a hotbox and can NOT handle the heat). Instead of asking me to change it or changing it themselves, they dealt with it and rated reflectively. The front door has been maintenanced and is no longer sticky/finicky. You'll be able to access.. FULLY Your private room and the shared bathroom. PARTIALLY The kitchen, dining room, and other shared spaces. Meaning these won't be exclusive to you and you cannot make reservation to use them. You're welcome to lightly use them and leave them in the condition in which you found them. The basement contains the washer and dryer. You're welcome to wash and dry clothes. NO ACCESS Master bedroom (last room in the hallway) Secondary guest room (first guest room on the right) I'm often out of town, so 9/10 it'll be self check-in. There's a keypad on the front door and all the info for check-in will be sent the day of your arrival. If I am in town, you'll usually find me at the kitchen bar working or on the front porch. I'm happy to chat, answer questions, and offer recommendations. My neighborhood is FABULOUS. 1. Mature area. Most residents have lived here for decades. They all know each other very well. They know I do AirBnb and think it's great. 2. I'm the 'young kid' on the block so they look out for me like I'm some kind of orphan. It's cute. 3. The Illinois Prairie Path (seriously, if you're a runner or biker, Google this - it's AMAZING!), is within walking distance of my house. Hop on and lose yourself on the Path (actually impossible to do since it's properly marked). 4. The train is a 10 minute walk. (And a safe walk!) 5. During the summer, you'll see a lot of runners getting their miles in. 6. Quiet and safe (I leave packages on my porch, don't always lock my car door, and go walking in the evening.) 7. The West Chicago Rec Center (kids water splash pad, gym, park, and dog park) are all within walking distance or a very quick drive from my house. The Center is in the neighborhood. 8. Cops like to troll the speeders, so if you're driving, keep it to 30 mph. 9. River City Roasters (coffee shop) - legit, great for working, lots of space. 10. Uber Eats and DoorDash and GrubHub deliver. Most people staying at the Farmhouse are either attending a wedding in the area, here for work, visiting someone was Wheaton College/Academy, or hanging out downtown. Downtown - I usually take the train. It's a 10 minute walk. I don't have to worry about parking my car at the station. I don't have to pay parking downtown. It's $14.5/RT during weekdays and $10 RT on Saturdays and Sundays (weekend pass is $10). I don't have to fight traffic. Wheaton Academy - five mins away... you can Uber easily Wheaton College - 14 minute drive or take the train to College Station and walk to the College (cheap train ride) Other suburbs - an Uber ride will cost you about $15-30. If you need transportation to/from the airport, I will do my very best to arrange for you. ORD - $50 (one way) Midway - $60 (one way) Depending on the season, my house can be buzzing. You may be the only person in the house or all three rooms could be full, I could be hosting a church small group, and my work team could be having a meeting in the basement. I am a social person and have a rich life which usually means a full house. Pets and children (unless pre-approved) are NOT allowed in the home. Unregistered guests are NOT allowed in the home.
