The guesthouse with the holiday lofts Westera and Ostera is located on the rural Sonnenhügel estate in the Carinerland. The former stable building combines historic character with contemporary design and a calm, warm aesthetic. Westera stands for understated elegance, high-quality materials and carefully considered details. It is a place created to radiate tranquillity and offer space to slow down – shaped by the wish to give guests moments of balance and quiet harmony. The space Westera is designed across two open levels and combines a sense of spaciousness with warmth and intimacy. On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining and living areas flow seamlessly into one another. Warm materials, carefully placed lighting and a calm, natural atmosphere create a space that gently slows the pace of the day and allows guests to arrive fully. The subtle scent of wood, warmth and the surrounding garden often lingers naturally in the air. Upstairs, the generous bedroom with an additional sofa bed offers a private retreat that balances openness and comfort in a thoughtful way. In the Atelier Bathroom, warmth, soft light and the infrared sauna invite moments of quiet relaxation. Here, atmosphere is created not through effects, but through materials, light and a sense of calm. The experience is complemented by the Yoga Atelier with a small, consciously integrated fitness area – a space for gentle movement, stretching and renewed energy, free from any sense of pressure or haste. The expansive garden unfolds as a shared outdoor living space. Between mature trees, perennial beds and open meadows, guests will find many places to sit, lie down and linger. The mood changes throughout the day: light and clear in the morning, wide and tranquil in the afternoon, soft and sheltered in the evening. Those who wish may end the day at the grill, or simply enjoy the distinctive stillness that surrounds the Sonnenhügel. Magical moments often arise quite naturally here: in the crackling of the fireplace, in the play of light and shadow, in the scent of the garden, or in the simple pleasure of doing nothing at all. Westera is a place for people who value slowing down, appreciate quality and choose to spend their time consciously. Guest access With its approximately 10,000 square metres, the Sonnenhügel is intentionally spacious. This allows our guests plenty of room for privacy, calm and personal moments – unless they consciously choose to share time together, for example during a relaxed barbecue evening in our Grillcota. Neu Karin lies off the beaten tourist paths. This secluded setting offers a rare sense of tranquillity and closeness to nature. Guests who choose the Sonnenhügel do so deliberately – embracing a quiet retreat where, at night, you may hear the nightingale sing and, in the morning, the frogs gently croak. Other things to note When you arrive at Sonnenhügel, everyday life is invited to pause. Time to arrive, to breathe deeply and to let go is very much part of the experience here. Looking out over the open landscape or into a clear, star-filled sky quickly makes one thing clear: life moves more slowly and more consciously here. Sonnenhügel is located in a quiet, deliberately secluded setting, away from the usual tourist routes. At the same time, the Baltic Sea and its beaches are easy to reach: Kühlungsborn is about 16 km away, the Salzhaff around 10 km and Rerik approximately 15 km. The Hanseatic cities of Wismar and Rostock are each about 35 km away. Shops and supermarkets can be found in nearby Neubukow and Kröpelin, both around 8 km away. Towels and bed linen are provided. In the kitchen you will find everything you need for a relaxed start – good coffee and tea, spices, oil and a few basic essentials that make cooking together easy and enjoyable, without having to bring everything with you. The area around Sonnenhügel offers lakes, fields and the nearby Entenmoor nature reserve, inviting you to take walks and enjoy quiet discoveries. When arriving, please make sure to enter Neu Karin as your destination – the same address also exists once more in Neubukow. Bicycles can be stored safely and dry in our barn. Alternatively, we are happy to recommend a bicycle rental service that delivers bikes directly to Sonnenhügel and collects them again. There are intentionally no televisions in our apartments – Wi-Fi is, of course, available.
