We provide coffee, tea, milk, and sugar and, when we can find them, some eggs from our free-ranging chickens when they are laying. We can arrange for local produce and wine during your stay at an additional cost. We have a travel cot available on request at no extra charge. We are only 3 miles from the nearest railway station at Cholsey so can arrange transport from the station on request if you would like a car-free break. We are on a number of on and off-road cycle routes so we are an ideal location if you are either just passing through or wanting to stick around a bit to fully explore the area. If cycling and walking is not your thing, then there are plenty of sites to see within a very short drive by car. The remains of Wallingford Castle which was the first Norman castle to be commissioned by William the Conqueror is only 2 miles away. The historic village of Ewelme with the oldest continually functioning Church school (founded 1437) in England is also 2 miles away. Henley is 15 minutes by car but there's also a regular bus between Henley and Wallingford. We have a range of local maps in the lodge showing all the walking and biking paths in the area, from short walks to full day hikes and trails. We are situated less than a mile from the Ridgeway National Trail which is a 85 mile mostly off road trail across the Chiltern Hills and Berkshire Downs. There is a dense network of bridle ways and footpaths linking historic towns and villages for you to explore. The lodge is close to both Wallingford and Henley with many gastro pubs in between. The area is steeped in history with Bronze Age hill forts, villages with Roman ancestry, Saxon earthworks and Norman castles and churches. There are farmers markets, regattas, music and art festivals, car and steam rallies all happening throughout spring, summer and autumn within a 10 mile radius. Henley Royal Regatta is perhaps the most famous followed by Henley Festival but the likes of the Wallingford Blues and Beer festival presents some interesting niche activities to entertain you.
