Here you will experience a holiday with a story, in the heart of South Holland. An authentic experience with a touch of history De Molen is a historic mill stump with a unique appearance. The thick walls and authentic details are reminiscent of its glory days. Thanks to careful adjustments, the mill has modern amenities without losing its authentic atmosphere. Although the mill is well insulated and modernly furnished, the staircase to the top is steep, which can be a point of attention for people with limited mobility. Here, you will experience a combination of history, comfort, and simplicity. A lively yard full of nature The Mill is located on a shared property, where you share the space with the guests of De Molenaarswoning and with the poultry that roams freely here. At the first morning light, you can hear the chickens and peacocks completing their morning ritual. This natural sound is part of the rural character of the place, but it is good to know that the days here start early. In the summer months, you can also encounter mosquitoes due to the surrounding water. This is typical of a water-rich environment such as the Alblasserwaard. We recommend that you bring an anti-mosquito repellent so that you can enjoy the long summer evenings undisturbed. The orchard on the property offers playground equipment for children, and the waters around De Molen are perfect for fishermen. This water is partly private (no permit required) and partly public (permit available through local authorities). Authentic comfort and practical amenities De Molen offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. A cozy living room, which is a cozy place to relax after a day of discoveries. The living room also has a wood-burning stove. We provide our guests with 1 basket full of wood as standard. If the wood is used up, extra wood can be requested for a small fee. Despite the age of the accommodation, it is equipped with a modern kitchen, equipped with a filter coffee maker and a Senseo machine. Don't forget to bring your own filter coffee and coffee filters (no. 4) and Senseo pads. Sleeping area The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable, perfect to relax and unwind after an active day. There are 2 bedrooms which can be reached separately through a landing for full privacy. In Bedroom A, 2 beds are made next to each other, and in Bedroom B, 3 single beds are made. Heating The mill is well insulated, so you stay pleasantly warm in the winter with our central heating. The smart control of the heating ensures that we control the temperature according to our values and taking into account the prevention of energy waste. We want to keep the temperature around 20 degrees as a maximum. If the temperature is too low for you, feel free to bring a sweater and long pants. The surroundings: peace, nature and adventure The Mill is located in the middle of the Alblasserwaard, one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Netherlands. The Pieterpad runs directly along the plot, ideal for hikers. In addition, trips to Kinderdijk, Dordrecht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam are easy to make: - Kinderdijk (15-minute drive): Admire the world-famous mills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. - Dordrecht (20 minutes): Historic ports and cozy terraces await you. - Rotterdam (30 minutes): Modern architecture, the Markthal and a bustling port city. - Amsterdam (1 hour): A day trip to the capital is a great addition to your stay. Public transportation: Although limited, you can easily plan your trip using the 9292 app. For maximum flexibility, we recommend a car. Although the house has some characteristic features – such as the steep staircase and the early morning sound of chickens and peacocks – these contribute to the authenticity and atmosphere of your stay. The outdoor space must be shared with the guests of De Molenenaarswoning. Other things to note The upper floor is only accessible via steep stairs. This may be a concern for people with limited mobility. Guests sometimes smoke, and other guests may find this disturbing. If you find this very annoying, consider this before booking the accommodation! Authentic decor The accommodation is authentically decorated. No modern colors and luxurious, but as you recognized it from the past. Despite that, we have renovated the kitchen, toilet and bathroom to current standards.
