Cottage in beautiful gardens of C16 Manor House
Peaceful edge-of-village C18th converted cottage in gardens of Manor House
Description
Nestled peacefully in the grounds of C16 Manor House with its own secluded garden, on the edge of the village, adjacent to Newick Wine Estate. Short stroll to 3 old oak-beamed pubs, playground, cafe, bakery (croissants!). Glyndebourne 20 mins, Lewes 15 mins, 30 min to Brighton and the coast. Sheffield Park, Bluebell Railway, Borde Hill, vineyards of Ridgeview, Rathfinny, Bee Tree, Bolney, Bluebell all near. Golf at Piltdown and Royal Ashdown. Great walks on Ashdown Forest and South Downs Way The space Originally a stone and brick farm building, converted to a house in the 1960s and now a comfortable, well equipped holiday home with fibre broadband making it suitable also for home working, the cottage is entirely separate from our house in a different part of the garden. Almost all on one level (one internal step down to sitting room, two steps up to the twin room, otherwise all on entry level). The setting is lovely, with its own south facing enclosed garden with patio and lawn areas, flower borders planted to attract birds and butterflies, a beautiful magnolia tree, and on the the north facing aspect with medlar and quince trees looking across to Newick's lovely 11th century mellow sandstone church. The church clock is silent! Lovely walks straight from the cottage - in one direction the cricket pitch, children's playground, pubs and village shops, in another a short walk across Newick Wine Estate vineyard (tastings and tours available) to a beautiful Woodland Trust bluebell wood, and in a third a walk through the ancient churchyard to fields beyond. We always put fresh flowers in for guests, for almost all of the year (except the depths of winter) these will be sourced from our own garden. Newick is popular with our guests as there are several eating options an easy walk away. The Royal Oak and The Bull serve traditional pub food, The Crown has Thai food, and Friday night is pizza night (take away or eat in). Also Newick tandoori (eat in or take away) and The Pantry (a delightful cafe serving delicious cakes, scones, light lunches). A longer walk through water meadows by the Ouse takes you to Sheffield Park Gardens and the Bluebell railway. Lots to do in the area - kayak on Ardingly reservoir, take a boat on the river Ouse in Barcombe from the Anchor pub, walk along the South Downs Way, explore Winnie the Pooh country on Ashdown Forest. Guest access The cottage and its own garden are for the exclusive use of guests. There is ample car parking in the extremely quiet lane (cul de sac which leads only to the church car park and one other house), with a drop off area for loading and unloading in our drive immediately outside the cottage front door. For those with specific mobility issues we can make parking (1 car) available in our own driveway by arrangement.
