The Resort is located within the medieval village of Vicopisano, a Tuscan jewel where the genius of Florentine architect Filippo Brunelleschi has built the Rocca del Castello that dominates the picturesque village. Il Prison Apartment The Prison is a thematic apartment with an extraordinarily original character: it was in the Middle Ages, none other than the real prison of Maniero. Being originally an ancient fort and military outpost, it was equipped with a real prison area that today, after centuries, is a unique location in the world where you can spend an unforgettable stay: do not worry, at the end of your stay... you will be released! The Prison still maintains its historical characteristics: the large entrance door, made of Tuscan cypress, still has the window with the typical cell bars, while inside the large studio is divided by the security wrought iron grille that today separates the living area from the sleeping area in an original step back in time: the apartment is in fact composed of a kitchen, living room and double bedroom with bathroom. The Kitchen:In rustic Tuscan masonry, the kitchen is characterized by the typical gritted sink, a large countertop with induction burners while the refrigerator and dishwasher are located in the wooden recesses of the kitchen itself where you will also find pots, microwave, kettle, toaster and everything you need to prepare a beautiful Tuscan dinner. The environment also evokes in the details and furnishings a typical Tuscan medieval prison style that makes the location extraordinarily evocative for a unique experience out of time! The living room: The living corner with TV has been carved into the natural niche of the medieval walls to give you an evocative break. In fact, along the entire length of the apartment is the fortification wall of Vicopisano. The medieval walls, with the characteristic fairytale become today a window overlooking the surrounding countryside, offer a unique background to the location. You can see the overlap of different types of stone to confirm the construction of the fortification walls of Vicopisano in several historical periods: the first layer even dates back to the first Roman settlement. The Chamber of the Prisoner is separated from the living area by the wrought iron grille typical of the old prisons, a truly one-of-a-kind style detail. The large king size bed with views from the ancient window, today a window, overlooks the beautiful view of Monte Pisano characterized by the evocative terraces of centuries-old olive trees. Unique detail is the "exposed" closet, made of poor recovery wood and iron wire net, typical of prison decor. The apartment is illuminated by medieval lantern features that make the environment particularly evocative. The bathroom,like the other rooms, is certainly not without style: the door, made of Tuscan wood, is nothing more than the typical door of the prisoner's cell with a control peephole. The bathroom offers a large shower, toilet, and sink made with an ancient tin tub while the mirror is made on a vintage window. Il Forno Each apartment in the Maniero can enjoy the historic Oven, a common and passing environment for all guests to access the exclusive pool, garden and indoor loggia. The Forno is a one-of-a-kind environment that we strongly wanted to maintain in its original form: in the Middle Ages the real oven, which still measures 3 meters by 3 meters, was at the service of the entire village for the production of bread. Today we wanted to pay homage to them by making it the environment reserved for our Tuscan Cooking Courses, not to mention poolside aperitifs, wine&food tastings and weekly themed dinners. The Forno is finely decorated on the ceiling with the typical harnesses of our country's rural history: imagine learning in this fantastic location how to make fresh handmade pasta, Tuscan sweets and cookies, bruschetta and much more! Adjacent to the main room of the oven is another service room – called the Castro del Poriale: once there were pigs who also had the opportunity to go out in a fenced outdoor space that today is our corner aperitifs by the pool. In the Castro you will find a large fridge in service during your pool time to make you enjoy fresh drinks directly on site, as well as a large freezer divided into departments for each apartment that you can use if you need it.
