The house of Äijälä is one of the few 200 year old country houses in Jyväskylä region and truly a unique opportunity to experience the traditional Finnish lifestyle in an authentic setting. The house has been renovated respecting the old building techniques and the interior is decorated according to the original rural style. Currently the house is a home for a colorful community of young and old people living together with people with special needs and always happy to host foreign travelers. The space During the weekdays the house and it's large garden functions as a place of work for unemployed people and international volunteers, so especially in the summer season the atmosphere is very lively and communal. The guestrooms are all located in the more quiet wing of the house and the doors can be locked with a key so your rest and privacy are guaranteed. Guest access Besides the private rooms, all the the common areas in the in the house are available for the guests to use. The big kitchen is fully equipped and can be used for cooking dinner or preparing coffee & tea. During summertime the garden and fruit orchard offer wonderful opportunities for relaxing in a natural setting and playing outdoor games such as volleyball, petanque or the Finnish speciality "mölkky". The garden is also a home for the chicken and the sheep who are always happy to meet new people from around the world! There is separate building with a fully equipped laundry room and an authentic wood heated sauna that can be warmed up upon request. Parking with electrical socket is also available.
