19th Century Fisherman's cottage. Close to beach

This small old quaint fisherman's cottage is close to the sea with sea views from the front bedroom and restricted views from the lounge. Based in the famous Victorian seaside town of Ventnor. Bay Cottage is walking distance to the seafront, restaurants, pubs, shops, bus stops, cafes and wonderful walking routes. Free 24hr parking close by. Car park busy from Easter to Autumn. Fee-paying car parks close by at Dudley Street, Market Street, Town Centre (Central) and along the seafront. The space This is a charming, quaint, traditional end of terrace fisherman's cottage. We have kept the integrity of the cottage to reflect its age. While we have equipped the cottage to reflect some modern necessities, we would not say it reflects all modern technology or décor. Downstairs is a functional, well equipped 4 seater kitchen diner, with fridge, electric oven and grill, washing machine and tumble dryer. No dishwasher, I'm afraid. The lounge comfortably seats 4 people and has a TV with a HDMI ports, CD player and electric log style fire. The cottage has full gas central heating and double glazing. Downstairs has a small shower room with toilet and basin. The toilet is located in the only space available in the shower room and is a tighter squeeze for larger people. However, there is an upstairs toilet. It has been mentioned by some guests, the shower room and the shower cubicle is small.....which it is. Some guests have suggested we could make the shower room into a wet room, but we would be concerned for guest safety, we wish to avoid guests slipping and falling on a wet floor, which may happen if this room became a wet room. While the stairs are steep, there is a handrail on both sides of the stairwell for assistance if needed. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms. The front bedroom has a queen-sized bed, wardrobe, hairdryer, mirror and a sea view. The second bedroom is very cosy for space once 2 beds are erected. The second bed in this room is a pull out bed. Some guests have mentioned the pull-out bed is not so comfortable for a heavy adult. Guest looking to book Bay Cottage for 4 adults would need to consider this feedback if looking to book and stay for more than 2 nights. If only one bed is in use the room is quite a good size. This bedroom also has a wardrobe and mirror. There is an upstairs toilet and basin. Bath and hand towels are provided (we do not provide bath sheets, some guests may find provided bath towels not large enough) beds are prepared before guests arrive. So guests may make a drink on arrival, we leave fresh milk in the fridge, tea, instant coffee and sugar. We do welcome stays for guests with one small dog. There are however limitations. We kindly and respectfully ask that dogs are not to sit/lay on the settee or chairs. We also ask guests to ensure dogs do not sleep on the beds, or indeed preferably not taken upstairs. It is possible to close the bedroom doors to prevent 4 legged family members taking ownership of bed space. The cottage has Wi-Fi. Mobile phone reception is limited due to the position of the cottage to the nearest cell tower. Bay Cottage has a shared patio garden. There is a table and 4 chairs for guest use. Bay Cottage portion of the patio area is walled off and has a gate for access for 2 of our neighbours if needed. Please be mindful to keep this gate closed at all times. Particularly if guests are staying with their dog. Guest access There is free local parking 5 minutes away in Wheelers Bay Car Park. Guests do need to be mindful to move the car to a different bay in the car park every 24hrs. There is a local bus stop 5 minutes from the cottage. There is also on street parking. During the summer months, on street parking is at a premium. Dudley Road Car park, also 5 minutes away is a fee paying car park. Free parking available for Blue Badge entitlement for up to 8 hours. St Catherine Street is a one way street, please be mindful if dropping off luggage before parking. Other things to note The Island is very busy from Easter through to Autumn months.
