Idyllic character cottage set in landscaped garden with a private pool
Casa Pero is a comfortably furnished, centrally heated accommodation for up to 6 guests. On the ground floor a well equipped kitchen, leads to a large but cozy sitting room with sofas, armchairs, bookcases, open hearth and fire. There is also a wc/shower on the ground floor. The first floor is reached by an external staircase which gives access to three large bedrooms, two doubles and a twin. There is also a well appointed bathroom with wc. Outside there is a large illuminated paved terrace from which there are steps down to a good size swimming pool (10x6m), set within gardens which have been professionally designed and richly planted with lavenders, roses and many colorful perennials. Casa Pero is ideally located midway between the Adriatic Coast and the breath taking scenery of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. With its wildflower meadows, its gin clear mountain streams, limestone gorges and waterfalls these mountains are a haven for ramblers, mountain bikers, skiers and those mere mortals who simply want to experience this sublime landscape. No visit is complete without a trip to the Piane Grande, formerly a glacial lake and now the most stunning wildflower meadow, and the Gola Infernaccio (Hells Gorge), a must for walkers and ramblers. The Adriatic coast is to all intents and purposes one long sandy beach! The beaches are clean and the water is delightfully warm during the summer months. Inevitably there are plenty to choose from such as at Porto San Giorgio and San Benedetto del Tronto, with its old world elegance and palm fringed promenade backed by seafront hotels and old colonial villas. In contrast the more intimate beaches at Sirolo and Portonovo below the high cliffs at Monte Conero are well worth visiting. The nearest golf course is located south of Ancona at Conero about 1 hours drive from the house. Club hire is available and green fees are extremely reasonable. Notwithstanding the rural location eating out is very definitely part of the holiday experience. There are numerous excellent restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias in the locality where you can sample the wonderful Marchegian food and wine. Amongst the best are Farfense at Santa Vittoria, Le Logge at Smerillo, Le Querce at Monte San Martino and I Piceni at Ortezzano. Unless you feel the urge to visit a large supermarket in Amandola or Comunanza (both about 20 minutes drive), all food and essential shopping can be done at Santa Vittoria in Matenano, about 5 minutes drive. This beautiful little historic hill town boasts two small 'Spar' type shops as well as a bank, a bakery, greengrocers, two butchers, and several bars to while away a crafty hour and people watch!
