Eco-friendly guesthouse in the heart of Marquette
Located in the "Village" of Marquette just a few blocks from Lake Superior, downtown and 3rd street shopping and dining. Newly built in 2012 to modern fire and building codes, lots of natural light. Electricity is generated with on site solar panels. Comfortably accommodates 2 adults, can sleep up to 4. The guesthouse was designed by my father and built in 2012 by my husband. We used up-cycled or local resources as much as possible in the construction of the space. The guesthouse doors are from our own 1880s era home. The wood flooring is primarily reused sugar maple and the trim was milled from locally harvested white pine. The living room was refurnished in April 2016. The bedroom has new comforters as of May 2019 and a new mattress/bed frame as of 2023. We hope you enjoy our space! We are happy to say that 80% of the electricity we use comes from our on site solar panels you can see from the bedroom window so you will enjoy much of your time here "off grid," in the middle of town! We use only Norwex products or vinegar to clean, aside from 7th generation toilet cleaner. The bedding and towels are only washed with "free and clear" Norwex or 7th generation detergents. We do our best to use only cleaning agents that are safe for humans and our planet. We live with our family in the home adjacent to the guesthouse. We hope to give our guests as much privacy as possible, but want them to know we will be around the property during your stay. We do not allow any smoking or animals on the property. Parking available for one car in the driveway. Street parking available during non-winter months. Due to limited parking, we can only have one vehicle per party. We have a carpentry shop in the garage below your guesthouse. It is well-insulated but muffled voices and tools can still be heard somewhat when we are down there working. If we absolutely have to work in the shop while we have guests, we limit it between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm (however, we do our best to avoid this while guests are with us). Our Airbnb is officially registered in Marquette and meets local zoning requirements. Guest access to the guesthouse is via a shared mud room space. We enjoy meeting our guests, that's part of the enjoyment of Airbnb, but we also respect your space and privacy. We are willing to help with any suggestions regarding places to eat, things to do in the Upper Peninsula. Additionally, please check out my guide book on this listing for our local favorites! We love the proximity of the conveniences of town while also being only minutes from wilderness, woods and Lake Superior. Off street parking is easy to find, just keep in mind there is an overnight street parking during our snowy months (in effect annually, November-April). We are centrally located and within walking distance to NMU, downtown, the dome, beach, library, breweries and restaurants. We do not allow any smoking or animals on the property. Parking available for one car per group of guests. The guesthouse is on the second story and requires one to walk up a flight of stairs. *Please note that all beds are in the SAME bedroom. As shown in the photos, there is a queen and twin trundle bed in the bedroom which comfortably sleeps 4 people in one bedroom. The couch is not a pull out or sleeper and we ask guests not to use it for sleeping accommodations.
