Description

A conveniently located, bright, clean, quiet, comfortable and spacious suite with private entrance, full kitchen, private laundry and one comfy queen sized bed (optional single air mattress on a bed frame can be booked for extra charge). Includes a sunny dining area with a big bright window for beautiful views of the water. **Taller guests (over 6') please read Other Details To Note. The space My home is located on the Gorge, a tidal (salt) waterway used by kayakers, paddlers, and swimmers; lined by a well-groomed park that is popular with walkers, runners and anyone who wants to sit a while on the many benches along the way. Well served by city buses, my home is also perfectly situated for access to ferries, airport (YYJ), Island Highway, Royal Roads University, Camosun College, the Victoria General Hospital and West Coast beaches. It's a couple of minutes' walk to Amica on the Gorge. Two supermarkets and three pharmacies within easy walking distance; the nearest coffee shop is less than a 10 minute walk. Southern Vancouver Island is abundant in amazing artisans, brilliant bakers, phenomenal farmers and marvellous markets. I have put together a binder with my recommendations of places to go, local shopping and favourite places to eat. The suite is suitable for up to 2 people, as there is one queen sized bed (no sofa, no sofabed). I have a spare guest room that can adjoin the suite, but that would have to be booked separately after booking the suite. I have a (single) air bed for one extra person ($10/night). I think you'll find it a lovely, clean and comfortable place to rest up, gaze out at the view, and plan your days out. TALL (6' plus) GUESTS PLEASE READ "Other things to note" below before booking. Guest access The suite has its own full kitchen equipped with coffee makers (electric drip, French press, moka, cone filter), coffee grinder, kettle, toaster, blender, microwave, fridge & stove. Pots & pans and dishes are there for your use of course. No dishwasher but your own fair hands. I provide battery-operated candles if you want a little romantic ambiance in the evening. The laundry area has its own washer & dryer, clothes drying rack, ironing board and iron. Washing detergent is provided. There's an umbrella dryer in the backyard if you'd like to hang your laundry outside in fine weather. There's free wireless Internet (75mbps with Wifi extender), and a powerlink plug that can smooth out internet connections if needed, via ethernet jack. I provide a television with dvd/Blu-Ray, but NO cable/ satellite/ antenna/ streaming, so there’s no commercial tv service. I’m afraid I don’t have a tv or streaming service myself so can’t offer those to you, but you can connect your own streaming services via wifi. As Billy Collins put it in his poem The Teacher: There is that part of us that believes We will never die – otherwise, How could we watch so much television? News junkies are welcome to tune into local radio on the stereo (radio / cd player w/usb plug), or access news channels through your device. Please let me know if you're arriving by car. There is a dedicated parking spot for guests (8 feet / 2.4m wide by 16 feet/ 4.8m long), at the top of a 10 feet/3 m wide driveway which can accommodate small to mid-sized vehicles. This is a bike-friendly neighbourhood so all street parking on our road has been eliminated in favour of bike lanes. There are several city bus stops (routes 11, 14, 24, 25) between 2-10 minutes walk from my house, and the buses have racks to hold up to 3 bikes at a time. A sunny patio out front with table & chairs lets you enjoy the air and the view if you want to sit outside. This is a quiet residential neighbourhood, and my neighbours are okay with Airbnbs, as long as we are quiet and respectful. I will be home upstairs while you are here. It's an old timber-frame house so some sound travels. For all these reasons, parties and loud, disruptive activities cannot be tolerated, and I can’t accommodate young children. Other things to note TALL (6' plus) GUESTS PLEASE READ THIS. As some of my more altitudinous guests have discovered, there are a couple of 6 foot ceiling beams in the kitchen that may remind you of European historical buildings if you aren't careful, and the charming dining alcove requires most tall folks to duck when entering. But the ceilings are of standard height (6'6"/2m) and as you can see from the pics the suite is bright and feels very spacious. The suite is equipped with fans and a small air purifier for summer; and a dehumidifier for humid summer or damp winter days. The suite's floors are laminate and I do ask that you take shoes off indoors, so you will want to pack some slippers, especially in cooler weather! I have a dog called Murphy who stays upstairs in my part of the house and is not barky. Registration Details Provincial registration number: H243392227
