On the other hand, the “little house” is at 7 Kilometers from Mina de São Domingos, an old mineral area that was explored, from 1858 to 1965, for pyrite by English Society Mason & Berry. Sulphur was produced from the mineral waste on a factory built for that purpose. The history of the exploration can be seen in many places walking through the village. Mina de São Domingos offers as well a very charming large lake where in summer is a pleasant place to have a drink, a snack or an enjoyable swim. The lake has got a EU blue flag. Not far from the “little house” is the village of Pomarão, a river port from which the pyrite was shipped to England. A small bridge links to Spain where a few villages nearby may be visited. Around the “little house” and on closed different villages there are many small restaurants where very tasteful regional food is waiting to be enjoyed.
