Upstairs level of two story home (Downstairs is a separate rental) in Bass Hbr.
This apartment rents Saturday to Saturday. Little Island House is a two story home in Bass Harbor, on the water, with two apartments, an Upstairs and a Downstairs apartment, which are totally separated. One enters the Upstairs level by the outside stairway to the deck and sliding glass door. Step into the living room area, with a floor-to-ceiling granite fireplace and cathedral ceiling with skylight. Airy and light, it has large windows facing the harbor on three sides, a sofa and coffee table, ROKU TV, two armchairs by the fireplace. The dining area follows, with an oval wooden table and four chairs, two corner lamps on small tables. The kitchen, with tile counters and hardwood floor, is well supplied and has a great view of its own. You'll find everything you need for cooking (including a lobster pot), coffee, or wine. Four burner gas stove, fridge. Kitchen linens. Cleaning supplies under the sink. A study area at the foot of the stairs to the bedroom is perfect for setting up your computer, writing, or 'working from home' (high speed Internet). The third-floor bedroom, with skylight and window, has a queen-size bed, large closet, two dressers, and louvered windows that open up inside to the cathedral ceiling and stone chimney. The bathroom/shower are around the corner from the kitchen. The apartment sleeps two. It has central heat for the off season, excellent ventilation in summer, and all the firewood one would like. All linens (bed, bath, and kitchen) are included. Immaculately clean, lovely decor. No smoking, no pets. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Glad to be on 'the quiet side': Views are beautiful. Bass Harbor has been photographed for the cover of a National Geographic book about New England and has been the site of several movies. The lobster fishing boats are always interesting, and if you love wildlife, eagles soar over the harbor daily. We counted twelve herons in the low tide one September day and have watched loons, ducks, terns, and gulls work the harbor. Although we're only thirty minutes from Bar Harbor, we are essentially very different. Bass Harbor is a small fishing village and working harbor on the southern end of Mount Desert Island. We're called 'The quiet side of the Island.' There's plenty to do here: The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Wonderland and Ship Harbor (part of Acadia National Park) are only a mile or two away. At Little Island Marine, the small boatyard which shares the peninsula with the house, Island Cruises makes nature trips Monday through Saturday, and charters private fishing or sailing trips. Restaurants are within easy walking distance. See reviews on Tripadvisor.
