The space The Mincio River is certainly one of the favorite places for many fishermen for the many types of fishing that can be practiced in it that make it a real fishing paradise. The Peschiera/Mantua cycle path runs along the Mincio River, an important protected natural area where you can admire river flora and fauna. At 2 km along the river you reach the Salionze dam, which you have to cross to continue on the left bank of the river, and at 7 km you can easily reach the village of Borghetto either by bicycle or on foot, with the Visconti Bridge, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and a destination for walks by many visitors. From Borghetto, you go up for about 500 meters until you reach the center of Valeggio sul Mincio, once an important stronghold of the Scaligeri of Verona. You can still admire the imposing Scaligero Castle. The wonderful Sigurtà Garden Park, one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Europe, is worth mentioning. Valeggio sul Mincio is also famous for the artisanal production of Tortellini di Valeggio, a stuffed egg pasta originally from the area, which legend has it was born in the 14th century. Annually, in honor of this typical dish, the "Festa del Nodo d'Amore" is celebrated on the Visconti Bridge of Valeggio sul Mincio, during which this specialty is tasted on two tables about six hundred meters long in the presence of four thousand diners. Other things to note One of these is the cycle path that connects Mantua to Peschiera del Garda, which, since last spring, has been enriched with a new itinerary: "The Historical Route of the Littorina. It is a question of walking or cycling along the same track along which the tracks of a historic train ran, the Littorina, which connected Mantua (in Lombardy) to Peschiera del Garda (in Veneto), active from 1934 until 1967, when it was decided to start dismantling this railway line and switch to road transport. Walking or cycling immersed in nature along the Mincio river, observing the diverse fauna of colorful ducks, white swans, gray herons, squirrels, turtles and grebes, becomes even more pleasant if you stop to read information and documents that testify to the historical presence of this extraordinary railway train that has transported tourists and commuters in over thirty years of activity.
