Mountain Mews: Solar & Geothermal powered getaway
The cozy, energy-efficient, 100-year-old Mountain Mews is part of a multifamily compound in the heart of Catskill Park amidst the high peaks near Belleayre Ski Center. Experience deep nature in a uniquely private and stylish setting. Slow down with board games in the great room or BBQ outside on the stone patio offering commanding views. A large farm table with seating for 8, a modern kitchen, and a bunk room curated with kids in mind are ready for you! Get away and enjoy for a week or more! While secluded and out of sight of neighbors, the property is readily accessible, and the road is snowplowed during the winter. It is just 3 minutes off Route 28, the Catskill Scenic Byway. Among its uniqueness are its profound quietness, privacy, energy efficiency, solar power, and geothermal radiant heat. The space offers a cozy mix of modern and traditional decor. Large picture windows provide generous natural light and views of stunning natural landscapes. Sadly, no pets are allowed. While we love animals, this measure and our hardwood floors and minimal rugs benefit our guests who suffer from allergies. During your stay, you will have full access to the Main and Northwest Wings, including the Great Room with a gorgeous chimney, all the grounds around the house (see map in pictures), porches, and patios. The owner is the host and property manager, occupies the South Wing from time to time and uses a separate entrance. Guests are encouraged to correspond via the Airbnb app. Guests should text or call host Robert if there is an emergency or no response on the app. The property is located a mile off of Route 28. If arriving from Kingston it can be reached by making a left onto Oliverea Road then by making the first right turn onto Lost Clove Toad followed by the first left turn onto Cruickshank Road. Once on Cruickshank Road follow the drive straight beyond two forks until you come to the top of the hill and you cannot drive any further. There’s ample parking at the top of the driveway next to the house. Be careful to park on the level and use the car parking brake. To ensure your privacy, please park leaving room for the owner to drive past and park behind the house. The thermostat in the kitchen controls the radiant floor in the main living areas and probably won’t need to be adjusted. The thermostats in the bedrooms can be adjusted as needed. The thermostat in the middle room also controls the end room. If the end room is too hot or too cold, the louvers on the three baseboard heaters can be adjusted to allow more or less warm airflow. The fireplace wood stove warms the great room and is ready for use. Please leave the ashes on the stove. The lower right and left levers are pulled out when starting the fire and pushed in to shut down the fire. Important: To get the most heat, after the temperature gauge starts rising, the spring-handle plunger at the top center should be firmly pushed in all the way (till it clunks). If you need more wood, please let us know so we can order it for you. To get the most hot water for a bath, fill the tub at half maximum flow rate with the inner knob rotated counter-clockwise to full hot. For long hot showers, slow down the flow with the big handle. The water well works fine for normal household use. However, a faucet, hose, or sprinkler left running unattended for a long time will lower the water level in the well, causing the water to turn brown. The fix is to wait a couple of hours, then let the water run at half maximum flow until it is clear. Before 7 am on Mondays, all garbage and recyclables should be placed in the black bear-proof garbage bin down the hill at the top of the barn driveway. Please be sure the lid latches shut, or the wildlife will make a mess. Our township has a short-term rental license, requirements, and rules. Our license number is 2022 – STR – 035P. The town rules are posted in our pictures. Our town limits the number of non-owner-occupied AirBnB properties. As such, I will likely be in another wing for at least part of your stay. At any time, I’m happy to stay in another out-of-sight building on the compound to give you more privacy.
