The "West Wing" at Gammelgården

The "West Wing" is part of Gammelgården, an 18th-century farmhouse that's one of the oldest buildings in Arild, a charming fishing village on the edge of the Kullaberg nature reserve in north-west Skåne. From the inner courtyard, you enter through the original stable doors into a private wing connected to the main house. The harbour, sea, tennis courts, boule lawn, and public swimming pool are all just a few minutes' walk away. The space The West Wing has a picturesque dining and living area with a historic tiled stove ("kakelugn") and a small serving hatch to a very compact, well-equipped kitchen. Next to it you'll find an equally compact bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. Wifi throughout. Upstairs, tucked under the eaves, a south-facing bedroom looks out over the entrance gate and courtyard. Two single beds (90×200 cm) are made up as a double. A landing adjoining the bedroom has two further single beds. Cot available on request. A few things to know: the tiled stove is decorative only, so please don't light it. As a protected 18th-century farmhouse, the West Wing has low ceilings and small original windows. Sound carries easily between rooms, and the ancient heat pump (about to be replaced) can be slightly audible at night, so it suits people who don't mind hearing a bit of life around them. Characterful and cosy, but not the place for bright modern interiors. Guest access The West Wing is attached to the main house but has its own separate entrance. It is yours alone for the duration of your stay. Other things to note Bed linen and towels are included. Free parking, when available, is at the bus terminal 100 m down the road. A few of my favourite local recommendations: — Hiking & nature: the Kullaleden coastal trail through Kullaberg nature reserve, with its lighthouse, sea caves, and dramatic cliffs. — Golf: St Arild Golfklubb (3 km) and Mölle Golfklubb (5 km), the latter often called Sweden's most beautiful course — Eating well: Krapperup Café in the castle grounds, Strand Restaurang on the harbour, Rusthållargården for a special evening. — Wine: local vineyards a short drive away. — For horse riding, climbing, diving, mountain biking, or unique running events on Kullaberg.
