The Pizzo / Pizzo Beach area Pizzo is one of the up and coming places of Southern Italy. Easily accessible by plane, train and road. Together with the great variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and local historic touristic venues. Pizzo offers great value. Visit the Piazza Della Republic where events and social occasions take place during the summer months. Also many festivals throughout the year making it a great place to visit at any time. Pizzo has a classic southern Mediterranean climate, enjoying warm weather from April to October. The summers are hot and dry with clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine. Pizzo is in the Province of Vibo Valentia (Calabria, Southern Italy). Situated on an elevated cliff position overlooking the Gulf of Santa Eufemia. It has one of the longest coast lines, 26kl of unspoilt beaches from Pizzo to Lamezia. Pizzo has always been dependant on the Sea. It’s stability and prosperity coming from the sea and the land that surrounds Pizzo. The ‘Piazza della Repubblicca’ is dominated by the 15th Century Aragonese castle which is now a museum and showcase to Joachim Murat, the ex-king of Naples who was shot on 13th Oct 1815 at the castle and was supposedly laid to rest at the Baroque Church of St George; which dates back to 1632 which can also be visited during opening hours. Pizzo is steeped in history and legends and as you walk around it’s old cobbled streets and weave your way through the houses you feel a sense of belonging, watching history. It is a place to explore and discover; full of tradition and culture. This apartment is superbly positioned in Calabria. Where the locals are friendly and helpful. Have a coffee, read a book, watch the world go by ... or take the family off to the beach. Go boating, do the inflatables, banana's, ski, or ever fancied a jet ski, well now is your chance .. and all this is on your door step. If your the adventurer, you are well positioned to go off exploring. The historic town of Pizzo is a 10 minute drive away. It is the home of the famous 'Tartufo' , a must for all ice-cream lovers. There is a castle and museum, cathedral, tombs, the 'Piedigrotto' caves, San Franchesco Church, the marina and that's just Pizzo. Vibo Valentia is for the archeologicalists, amazing what you can dig up !!! A Norman castle perched on a hill, housing the Museo Archeologico Statale'Vito Capialbi'. Just below, the libuary, worth a visit just for the view. The museum of art, 'Valentianum Museo di Arte Sacra. And one of my favorites, the cathedral, 'Duomo di Santa Maria Maggioge e San Leoluca. Best to do your home work before visiting, as there is not much information in English. Though there is a local information tourist board in every town. Check out the Airport tourist office and ask for any info in English they may have, you will be amazed. Vibo also boasts the largest street market in Calabria held on a Saturday morning. Plus there are a lot of street shops, something to tempt all the family. The Vibo Commercial Center is only a 10 minute drive out of town. An evening visit to Vibo, you can try some of the best restaurants in Calabria. The back streets are full of them. Vibo Valentia is a good place for hiking and trekking. You can enjoy the sea or the mountain paths, where you can explore and take photos of the unspoilt landscape. The 'Sentiero Frassati della Calabria' is one of the best Italian paths, where you can walk for at least 7 hours uninterrupted. Another stunning place for hiking and trekking is 'Lake Angitola', close to Maierota and is preserved by the WWF. Here you can watch grey herons, great crested grebe, swans and many other species. Tropea is a must to visit. Hundreds of tourists would agree. In September Tropea hosts the 'Tropea Jazz Festival' . Tropea,is a very popular tourist destination. Filled with fascinating little streets, ancient buildings and wrought iron balconies, gift shops, boutique. The Cathedral is well worth a look. Next to it is the exhibition center. You can also visit the little island and it's suggestive 'S.Maria dell'Isola Church' that was an important Benedectine Monastery. The city is also well known all over the world for it's production of the sweet flavoured red Tropea onion. Parghelia also hosts the 'Tropea Onion' festival in September. There is something for all the family, just come and visit. Keywords:
