The Sugarhouse
The Sugarhouse
Description
The quintessential Vermont stay! The Sugarhouse is a fully furnished one bedroom cottage, formerly a working sugarhouse built in 1915 to house the boilers that converted raw sap to maple syrup. It is located on a quiet Vermont country road bordered by historic New England dry stone walls, maple trees, and the beautiful Scott Farm. While you’ll feel a world away, you’ll be only 5 miles from Interstate 91 and 10 minutes from Brattleboro or Putney. The space The Sugarhouse is set back from the road, up a driveway and tucked into the hillside just below the Scott Farm apple orchard (home to nearly 130 varieties of heirloom apples and other fine fruits). Now the Sugarhouse offers a unique and very Vermonty experience to stay in a sugarhouse. The one-story cottage is fully furnished and includes one bedroom with a queen-size bed, one full bath, and an open concept kitchen/dining room/living room. The gas fireplace and radiant floor heating offer a warm and cozy retreat from cold winter temperatures. In the summer, there's air conditioning to keep you cool. Outside you can relax in an Adirondack chair or enjoy a screened-in area with seating for 4. The kitchen has everything you need to cook except the food (but lots of great restaurants and grocery stores are mere minutes away, and we can even connect you with personal chefs!) This property allows up to two dogs. Guest access You will have complete access to the house and grounds. Check in is 4pm or later and check out is by 10 am. The week before your arrival you will receive details to get the key. Trash pick up is on Wednesdays and mowing is scheduled for Thursdays (weather permitting). Otherwise you should not be disturbed, but we are close by if you need us. Other things to note Your stay does good in the world and supports the continued preservation of this historic property through the work of the nonprofit Landmark Trust USA, who restored the property according to the most rigorous national historic preservation standards and continues to own and manage the property today. You’re also welcome at the Scott Farm Market and Pippins Cafe next door, where you’ll find our own heirloom apples, other fresh fruits, and Vermont specialty products (open seasonally Summer and Fall). While you’re at Scott Farm, don’t miss the Stone Park, an incredible outdoor art park created with stacked dry (mortarless) stone, maintained by The Stone Trust nonprofit.
