The space The house is a product of loving design and attention to detail, curving surfaces and all natural materials including wood, marble and natural eco paints. The sensitive renovation & building work inspired a best-selling book called The Healthy Home. ITV broadcast their local evening news show live from our lounge. The atmosphere is peaceful and calming. People visiting from the city often find they sleep unexpectedly deeply, feeling rested and rejuvenated. The 700 year old original cottage (Peel House) was extended in 1997 by conversion of the barn and then in 2004 the stunning extension was added with its 2-storey high 2m wide windows, offering a twenty mile view over the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Yorkshire is a favourite for film locations and close to here was the setting for Calendar Girls (debuted in our local cinema!) and Wuthering Heights. The garden is a nature haven with a small field and woodland behind and a protected hillside wild garden in front. Organically cultivated for the 50 years we have owned it, the garden is quite a nature sanctuary…. we've counted 30 species of birds from wrens and collard doves to lapwings, curlews, barn owls and sparrow hawks. The perfect space for the guests of honour, with en suite, stunning views, large open plan living room with dining kitchen and stunning panoramic views PLEASE NOTE: **** The minimum stay for most (but not all) weekends is three nights not two. A 3-night stay is much better value. Two nights effectively give you just an evening and one day in this huge property of 20 rooms and most guests say they wish they had booked longer stays. Guest access 2 fully fitted kitchens! Enjoy the first fully equipped kitchen where you can cook and socialise … we've managed to cook for 20+ in there many times. There's a large farmhouse table in there for breakfast near the log fire and also a separate family dining room that seats 14-18 right next to the kitchen. A huge lounge (used for retreats) has the best panoramic views and there is plenty of space to be social or have quiet time. The second in located in the Panorama Penthouse Suite, fully fitted with dining table. Each bedroom has its own character and 14/15 people can be accommodated in 2 double bedrooms, 1 family room with king and 2 singles, and another smaller family room which has a king and a single, and 1 twin room, another with 3 singles one of which smaller single bed as the 3rd bed. There are 2 bathrooms, 4 shower rooms (one is en-suite to the family room) and an extra WC in the laundry. Other things to note The house is reached via a lime stone chipping track and cattle grid. If there are cows in the farmer's field of the access road, then you will need to open and close one gate. There is parking space for about 6 cars.
