Stylishly furnished, Elmet Farmhouse provides a luxurious rural retreat in a stunning hilltop setting surrounded by ravishing countryside. Decorated and 'curated' by design historian Lesley Jackson, Elmet Farmhouse is no ordinary holiday cottage. Every room is full of design delights, including Scandi-Modern furniture, Ercol chairs and striking Midcentury Modern textiles used as curtains, cushions and hangings. Dotted round the house are exquisite cut-paper lamps and wallpapers by local designer Hannah Nunn, another unique feature of Elmet Farmhouse. Art-lovers will be in their element as there are lots of original paintings and prints. Even the crockery and glassware is vintage – all part of the authentic Elmet experience. The large comfortable living room has a magnificent stone fireplace, a Swedish teak sideboard and a beech-framed Danish sofa, perfect for chilling out. Curl up in front of the woodburner with a copy of Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights (written by Charlotte and Emily Bronte at nearby Haworth) or have fun playing Bagatelle and our amazing selection of vintage board games. The big roomy farmhouse kitchen with its zingy green linoleum floor and bicycle wallpaper provides an enjoyable place for cooking and dining. It's fantastically well-equipped and has a large oak table for relaxing sociable meals. Upstairs are three spacious airy bedrooms (one double and two twins), all equally lovely. The master bedroom is romantic, with a large scale Hannah Nunn wallpaper frieze, a rocking chair and a window seat overlooking the garden. The stone mullion windows in the other first floor bedroom are particularly beautiful, complemented by subtle abstract-patterned curtains. The attic bedroom is always popular with its playful bunting suspended from the beams and multi-coloured chest of drawers. There are two lovely bathrooms, one with a bath and both with showers, with delightful touches such as a vintage railway poster and wallpaper alcove. Outside is a pretty cottage garden brimming with flowers where you can sit out and enjoy the amazing views. There are three outdoor seating areas in different parts of the garden, each with its own individual bench, and an outdoor dining terrace with a large table overlooking the lovely hay meadows in front of the newly renovated historic barn. The traditional wildflower meadows are full of buttercups in the spring and ox-eye daisies in summer. Kids can play in the garden, and also in the field after the hay has been cut. The fields provide a wonderful habitat for wildlife, with owls, kestrels, deer, rabbits and pheasants galore! Perched above the steep wooded valley of Hardcastle Crags (one of the treasures of the National Trust), Elmet Farmhouse has magnificent views of Stoodley Pike and the ancient village of Heptonstall on the rolling Pennine hills. A dramatic corner of the Yorkshire Dales, this is the landscape that inspired local poet Ted Hughes and the Bronte sisters just over the moor at Haworth. The panoramic vista from Elmet Farmhouse is so striking that it was featured on the cover of Ted Hughes’s book Remains of Elmet. Delve into the Dales on your doorstep and explore the fantastic local countryside. There are footpaths in every direction along riverside paths through wooded gorges with bluebells and waterfalls, beautiful lush green valleys and purple heather moorland where curlews and lapwings nest. We provide lots of maps, guidebooks and walks leaflets. Shop til you drop in the pleasant surroundings of Hebden Bridge, a market town renowned for its quirky independent shops, friendly cafes and pubs and its relaxed creative vibe. Enjoy local ale and home-cooked food at the Robin Hood Inn in Pecket Well, or take afternoon tea over in Heptonstall village or Haworth.
