The space Main description: You’ll find our shepherds hut named ‘Maurietty’ a short drive up a forest gravel track which gives us our prime location right in the heart of The New Forest (which has been voted the best National Park in Europe and 10th in the world!). A short drive from the historic market towns of Fordingbridge and Ringwood. Please read the ‘other things to note’ section below for info on WiFi and access. ‘Maurietty’ (named after my grandparents Maurie and Betty) offers an idyllic place to relax and unwind. Located away from roads set on the edge of our 3 ½ acre grounds. Stunning south facing views across our paddocks and countryside beyond with flora and fauna all around. The birdsong is amazing! Big open unpolluted night skies for star gazing. However you are not completely isolated here - there is quick and easy access to all main roads for visitors to explore the many villages, towns, cities and beaches that Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire have to offer (if you can tear yourself away from your little retreat!). This shepherd's hut offers character and comfort in spades. The little bijou beauty is like a tardis offering a warm and cosy retreat. Inside the fully insulated bespoke hut you'll find all the comforts to make it a home from home. A shower room with 800x800 shower, wc, wash basin and electric ladder radiator. A kitchenette with belfast sink, cafetiere, kettle, toaster, electric cooking pot, a mini raclette grill for 2, small chiller fridge, all cutlery and crockery for 2 and electric radiator. The 4'6" double bed is built in across one end of the hut with storage underneath (mattress length is the standard 6'3"), a window and smart tv with built in freesat for those British rainy days when you might want to tuck up and get cosy and watch your favourite programme. South facing double french doors flood the hut with sunshine on brighter days and provide a beautiful view out across open fields. There is a firepit for your use (bring your own wood or I can provide a bag of wood and firelighters for £15). Literally to the rear of the hut outside our fence is the open New Forest. Horse riders frequently go by as well as wildlife such as the New Forest ponies, cattle, donkeys, deer, foxes, badgers and an abundance of birds such as buzzards and Kites which are often seen circling above the trees during the summer months. Listen out for the Tawny Owls at night and the bird song here is beautiful. The site once formed part of Ibsley RAF base during World War II. The block of stables that you look out onto is the old latrine block and a couple of Stanton air raid shelters are in the paddock. Access to the property is via a gravel track (adding to the adventure!) and an electric gated entrance for which you will be provided with a code and thereafter on your keyring you will have a fob to open the gates. There is a footpath accessed from the gravel track at the back of our house which goes along the edge of our paddocks which is the best route to take to the award winning Hockeys Farm Shop and cafe (10 min walk), The Royal Oak Pub is a 20 minute walk away and there is another café 'The Potting Shed' which I highly recommend which is approx. a 20 minute lovely walk across the common at the back of us to the village of Hyde. Next to The Potting Shed you will find the new (2023) ‘Hyde Country Stores’ with a great convenience and gift shop. Another 10 minutes walk on from Hyde you will reach the Forester Arms pub in Frogham. Riding stables 10 min drive, watersports/fishing 2 miles, Nature Reserve less than 2 miles. If you enjoy your hiking - we have quick access onto the Avon Valley Path (a walk which starts in Salisbury and ends in Christchurch) but of course most of our ‘hikers’ come here to explore the open New Forest with its ancient woodland, trickling streams and open heather covered moorland. Please see 'Getting Around' section for walking directions to local farm shop, pub and cafe. 🚗Although we are positioned right in the National Park, we have quick and easy access to the road network if you want to explore the many villages, towns, cities and beaches that Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire have to offer. However, some of my guests park up and don’t use their car again until they leave! 👣 🚴♀️ Amazing position for long (or short!) walks and cycling through the ancient New Forest National Park. All from the hut. No need to drive anywhere. 💰Discounts automatically applied for stays of 3 nights or more plus last minute discount also applied. Why not have a 3 night weekend?! You’ll receive a 3 night booking discount plus most Sundays are also reduced. 🧹No extra cleaning fee charged. 📅 If your required dates won’t fit in, please contact me and I’ll try to accommodate you. 🍔 Feel free to bring a bbq. 🔥 If you would like me to provide a bag of wood and firelighters for the firepit it’s charged at £15. 🔑 Contactless check in - just book and arrive! 🐶 Unfortunately we can’t accommodate fur babies. ⚠️ Please have a look through the ‘house rules’ which I also send my guests and it’s important you follow my directions to find us easily. All my guests comment on how good my directions are!! 👋 Please see the ‘interaction with guests’ section to read about our hosting style. Guest access The entire space. It is for the sole private use of our guests. Other things to note We have dual band wifi and the hut has its own router inside the hut in the cupboard underneath the bed. Please select ‘Maurietty’ and the password is TOUCHWOOD. However, us country folk don’t have as good a wifi as city folk so please be mindful of this. We have recently had a new router fitted and fibre optic brought all the way to the house so touch wood so far the wifi has been great! Our property is accessed from a gravel track which has two ends. One end has a ford which is passable 90% of the year. When we have had an extreme amount of rain the ford may be too deep to drive through, but there is access by coming in and out the other end of the track. Our property is 0.2 mile from the ford end and 0.5 mile from the other end. General maintenance is carried out on the track a couple of times a year when it’s dry which helps with the pot holes. However, it obviously does get wet and muddy during the winter and it does have pot holes so please drive slowly. It all adds to the New Forest adventure and enables us to have a peaceful traffic free location!
