Description
HG-00006565. A big garden is with the house and a small sun deck. During the summertime a gas grill will be placed on the summer deck which you can use. it‘s just about 5 minutes walk to a swimming pool and just about 2 minutes walk to the grocery store and liquor store. In the same neighborhood is e.g. the Icelandic Seal Center and the wonderful restaurant Sjávarborg. The space The house is placed in a small village named Hvammstangi, near the see in the oldest neighborhood of the village. There is a view over the see and sometimes you can hear and smell the see. It's a very quiet and relaxing place. I care a lot about the house because I inherited it from my mother. Guest access It is a free parking place at the house, next to where the front door is. It is possible to drive to the house from two directions. From the streets Strandgata and Spítalastígur. I recommend when you arrive to drive in from Spítalastigur, because it is a rather steep slope from Strandgata, but it is okey to drive from the house down this slope. Other things to note It is a TV in the house and free Wifi. You are free to use cooking oil, seasoning, coffee and tea you find in the kitchen. The bed in the first bedroom, on the floor, is about 180 cm in width. In the second bedroom downstairs is one single bed, and there is also possible to place a guest bed if guests are more than 2-3. It is also a mattress stored in the basement. A travel bed for small kids is also in the house. You can use all the house and all the facility there. There is no dishwasher in the kitchen, but a facility to wash dishes and so on in the old way. It's a washing machine in the house which includes a dryer, but it's also clotheslines in the basement and outside in the garden to hang the clothes on to dry. You can find outdoors chairs and one little table in the basement or on the sundeck to use on the sun deck during the summer time. You can also bring the chairs from the kitchen outside if you need more chairs on the sundeck. The swimming pool in the village is wonderful. It's with hot tubs, cold tub and steam bath. In the dressing rooms are good showers and locked closets. It is just several minutes walk from the house to the east, and of course very short to drive. It´s just about 2 minutes walk to the grocery and liquor store (to the south from the house) Nearby is a cozy cafe (I am not sure if it's open in winter) and handcraft gallery Bardúsa (I am not sure if it's open in winter). Also nearby is the restaurant Sjávarborg. This restaurant is wonderful with great view over the see and is open the whole year. In the same house is the Seal Center where you can see an interesting exhibition and information about the seal that lives in the fjord. Little bit more to the south is a wool factory shop, named KIDKA, were you can buy clothes made from icelandic wool. If you like to hike in the neighborhood, I can recommend one option for one day hiking on Hvammstangi. There is a walkway that starts across the street where the crocery store/supermarket is. It is a sign there. The hiking trail runs along the river and to the camp site behind the village and there you could walk up the mountain above or at least something along the way. Recommended day trip is driving to the north from Hvammstangi around so called Vatnsnes (e. Water peninsula). You can see something about Vatnsnes on the internet e.g. on youtube. I will however warn you about the road, it‘s not paved and not always in a good condition. You can see a rock on the other side of the peninsula, named Hvítserkur. It’s famous, mainly for its special outlines. It is placed in the see short away from the beach. The coastline on the north edge of the peninsula is very spectacular. It’s about 2 and half hours drive to Akureyri (203 km) from Hvammstangi which is a beautiful town and the biggest on the north east coast. There is a Culture center named Hof, many museums and lot of restaurants. In a village named Sauðárkrókur is an interesting show about Vikings in Iceland in the ancient time. It is about one and a half hour drive to this village to the east from Hvammstangi. Registration Details HG-00006565
