Description

Peaceful and unique, Frogmore is a very refined ‘home from home’ with four bedrooms, three en-suite, superb lounge with leather sofas, and an amazing kitchen with dining area. Conveniently situated between Matlock and Bakewell and providing easy access to Chatsworth House and a whole host of Derbyshire's other attractions also being within a short drive away. A cosy and relaxing retreat, beautifully presented and set within the owner's private manicured grounds providing a secluded setting. The space Frogmore is a deceptively large property. Its footprint is an `L' shape in reverse having four bedrooms and able to accommodate 8 guests very comfortably, albeit bookings are being taken for a maximum of 6 guests currently. A spacious lounge with beamed ceiling overlooking the garden has sumptuous sofas (generous 4, 3 and 2 seaters), Freesat & smart T.V., superfast Wi-Fi and karaoke machine/C.D. player. A wide selection of board games are provided. The beamed ceilinged kitchen is well equipped and comprises central island, bespoke units, granite work surfaces, induction hob and double range oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, wine cooler, dishwasher, automatic washer/dryer and T.V. The open plan dining area has a rustic traditional pine table and settle adding to its ambient charm. Stairs from the lounge lead to a large master bedroom with en-suite bathroom including a double slipper bath and walk-in shower. To the downstairs, a double bedroom (Bedroom 2) has an en-suite shower room whilst the other (Bedroom 3) is adjacent to the luxurious family bathroom (guests may choose to dedicate the family bathroom to Bedroom 3 which is on the opposite side of the hallway). This bathroom with it's high beamed ceiling is well lit and includes a slipper bath, heated towel rail and large walk-in shower. The bedroom can be made up as a king size or twin bed to suit. The fourth bedroom is a modest double which has a generous single bed with integrated pull-out for a twin. Typically made up as a single bedroom, and includes a superb en-suite shower room with heated towel rail. Please note, zip & Link beds provide the flexibility for a group of 6 individual sharers to have twin bed arrangements - to be notified at the time of booking. All rooms have plantation shutters. A lovely garden to the front elevation catches the sun most of the day (when its out of course) whilst an elevated side patio and raised decking area with outdoor furniture overlook the wonderful woodland vista and countryside beyond. Plenty of outdoor seating space provides for a peaceful setting providing the opportunity to be captivated by the neighbouring woodlands which provides an array of wild life. Deer, hedgehogs and birds of prey are frequent visitors. Curlews, Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, Jays, Firecrests and Tree Creepers are just some of the examples of bird species that are frequently spotted. Owls, including the wonderful Tawny owl pairings can be heard most days of the year and particularly during during their breeding season where others from all directions appear to gate crash by putting stakes in the territory and joining in with the merry chorus, making it a particularly vocal event. Visitors are encouraged to document their sightings, whether it be wildlife, flora or fauna, particularly as a number of species are now in a sad decline. All of which adds to the magical experience whilst dining al-fresco during those warmer days and a bit of star gazing too maybe when the night sky is clear. Ample parking is available for at least six cars. There is secure undercover storage for bikes (please notify at time of booking should this be the case), a BBQ provided and a selection of indoor and outdoor games too. Everything in fact for that perfect stay. The property is conveniently located on the edge of the Peak District National Park between Matlock and Bakewell. `Frogmore' takes it's name after the former Toadhole Turnpike Road which is the road that travels down from Winster through the village of Darley Dale and passing over the ancient arched bridge known as Darley Bridge. Fortunately, there is no toll over the bridge today. Guest access Guests will have access to the whole of the cottage, cottage front garden and side patio and terrace. Other things to note Ideally located with two traditional inns situated within the village itself The Three Stags Heads focusing primarily on the dining experience and the Square & Compass again serving food. Each of the pubs having their own beer garden. Both very popular and well worth a visit. Best to book though, if dining. Within an approximately 3/4 mile stroll away `Barringtons pub and dining' is again very popular also having its own beer garden. Across the river, approximately 1/2 a mile, a short stroll from the back of the cricket pitch, a public footpath takes you to Churchtown. Churchtown has what is believed to be the oldest Yew tree in England within St Helen's church yard, a site in it own right and well worth a visit. The Peak Rail steam trains pass through here offering a glimpse into an age gone by. A stroll away over the level crossing brings you to another traditional Inn `The Church Inn'. A pleasant stop en-route, again serving food (at the time of writing). Also of worthy note is Darley Dale Cricket Ground, a short walk across the bridge over the river (the bridge itself a protected monument). A pleasant venue to pass an afternoon during those warmer months. The bar is open during match days and all are welcome. A walk on the track running along the Peak Rail railway line provides a pleasant vista across the valley and of the passing steam trains eventually ending in Matlock.
