Rustic romantic retreat for couple who love outdoor living and finding a quiet cosy backwater to relax and be together. You'll be only ones staying on 11 acres of lakes and wildflower meadows. Sit with you feet in the water, drift in the row boat, wild swim, wander through tall grasses and wild flowers. Enjoy sundowners on the decking. The space The Fishermans Hut is a single room log hut with veranda and decking over water. The Hut will provide you with comfortable rustic glamping style accomodation for outdoor living and enjoying the countryside. South Elmham Lakes offers private glamping accomodation in peaceful surroundings when our trout fishing is closed for the summer. It is the lakeside setting which makes this such a special place to stay. The whole area is managed for wildlife with trees, tall grasses and wildflowers. Inside the Hut measures 5.2m x 3.9m plus external covered veranda. There is a SEPARATE bathroom shed with hot shower and outdoor sink located 55 metres away across the meadow. Electric lighting in both Fishermans Hut and bathroom shed. The King size bed with quality cotton sheets and memory foam mattress is located on a 2.25m high mezzanine bunk platform. This is accessed by a vertical ladder with restricted headroom. The bed is unsuitable for the less agile, those with vertigo or who sleepwalk. Living area has leather sofa and furniture which can also be moved outside onto decking on warm evenings. Kitchenette with mains potable COLD water supply to sink for hand washing and making drinks only. This sink drains into the lake. Mains electricity 240v 13A, but you will feel off grid as there is no TV, no WIFI. Fridge, microwave, outdoor only gas BBQ with gas hob for cooking. Lockable safe. Socket for phone charge, mobile reception/data is variable by network. Bathroom shed has flush toilet, hand basin, and shower cubicle. There is a propane gas camping shower which also provides hot water to the inside shower and OUTSIDE sink for washing dishes and clothes. Guest access There is free car parking on hard standing 120metres from the Fishermans Hut. There is no vehicular access to the door. Quiet rural roads have no public transport, but are ideal for cycling and walking. There are extensive public footpaths over farmland locally. Wild swimming is available on the private lake just for you. A free online Open Water Safety course must be taken before you swim, so you are familiar with use of our water safety equipment. Many tourist attractions are within a 40 minute drive. Suffolk coastal towns of Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh. Town of Beccles for day boat hire in The Broads National Park. Town of Framlingham with its Castle. Historic city of Norwich with Castle, Cathedral, old cobbled streets, shopping and nightlife. Closer to home the historic market towns of Halesworth, Harleston and Bungay are each six miles away offering a range of cafés, pubs, restaurants and shopping. Local vineyards, breweries, musems and wildlife centres offer daytime attractions for those seeking activities. Hire a canoe in Bungay for idillic paddling on the beautiful river Waveney. Our rural location can mean local services are some distance away. Nearest neighbour is 0.4 km. Village shop 3.5 miles. Pubs 3 miles. Supermarket 6 miles. Restaurant and take away food 6 miles, delivery unlikely. Taxi 6 miles advance book only. Train station at Halesworth 7 miles, Diss 16 miles. Other things to note We love spending time at The Fishermans Hut, and hope you will too. However our rural location, rustic semi outdoor living space, and glamping style facitities will not suit everybody. Cooking is outside on a covered veranda with a gas BBQ and hob. No hot water and no bathroom within The Fishermans Hut. SEPARATE bathroom shed located 55 metres away across meadow grass which may be wet and/or in the dark. Bathroom Shed has lighting, flush toilet, hand basin, inside shower cubicle. Propane gas camping shower mounted externally which provides hot water to inside shower and outside stainless sink for washing dishes/clothes. You will be the only people staying on our 11 acres of meadows and lakes. However there is a nearby public footpath with occasional walkers. The fishing is closed during the summer. We do also offer private booked wild swimming to the public, but in another separate lake 0.5km away from the fishermans hut. FAQ Q. It's quite a lot of money to stay in a hut? A. Yes it is. But its a beautiful, peaceful place which has taken a great deal of time and effort to create. And you will be the only ones staying there. We hope you like all the little details we have added for you to make some great memories during your stay. Q. But seriously there are huts in fields and gardens everywhere, why pay more to choose this one? A. The privacy and quality of our location. You will be the only ones staying on 11 acres of lakes, trees and wildflower meadows. The view from the deck across the water is amazing. Wildlife is all around you, no other glampers, buildings or lodges, no traffic noise, just peace for you to experience together. Read our reviews! Q. Can I go Wild Swimming? A. Yes if you are a confident swimmer who has taken the water safety instruction that we require. Details on our web site southelmhamlakes. Q. Can I paddle board/sail/kayak in the lakes? A. No, our insurer does not allow us to offer this. You may paddle you feet in the shallow sandy area surrounding the decking. A rowing boat with life jackets is provided for your use. The river Waveney is 3 miles away which is great for canoeing and quiet watersports. Q. Can you recommend take away food for delivery. A. No, it is unlikely that any take away delivery service will be offered, online or otherwise. Take away food can be collected from the local market towns 15 minutes drive away. Q. Can I go fishing in the lakes. A. No, we do not offer summer fishing to you or other fishermen. Trout fishing in the summer is often poor, as trout hate hot weather. Q. Can I park a campervan by the lakes. A. No. There is no vehicular access to the lakes. Please park on hardstanding provided 120metres from the lakes. However you arrive here your booking is for a maximum of 2 people. Q. Can I pitch a tent when I stay at The Fishermans Hut? A. Yes pitch where you like. But your booking is still for a maximum of 2 people. We do not offer camping for additional guests. Q. Can we bring our dog? A. Sorry but no pets. Q. Can we light a fire in the evening? A. We provide a chiminea on the outside decking and dry branches for you to use, depending on fire risk at the time. No fire/flame/candles inside the hut or elsewhere. Q. Did I just see a rat? A. Wildlife comes in all sizes, but it was most likely a water vole. Incredibly cute furry herbivores which are quite tame but also endangered in the UK. Q. How busy is the footpath going to be during the day? A. We don't know for sure. The footpath may average perhaps 6 passing walkers a day. Often there will be fewer, sometimes you will see nobody else all day. Q. Can we go skinny dipping then? A. Swimwear is recommended.
