This charming cottage, home of Old Jack in the BBC children’s series Old Jack’s Boat starring Bernard Cribbins, looks out across red pantiled rooftops on the old village, the fishing boats in the beck, and the open sea beyond. Cosy, characterful and full of history, it’s perfect for a relaxing coastal escape or walking holiday, with the Cleveland Way passing right by the cottage. The space We’ve been welcoming guests to our Staithes cottages for almost 30 years and would be delighted to host your stay. The bench on the terrace outside gives you a front-row seat for the classic Staithes view that has inspired generations of visiting artists. Fishing boats drift in the harbour below, the light changes constantly across the village rooftops, and sunsets over the sea can be spectacular. It’s a wonderful place to sit with a morning coffee, an afternoon cup of tea, or a sunset G&T while watching the village go quietly about its day. Old Jack’s Cottage is known to many as the home of the title character in the BBC children’s series Old Jack’s Boat, played by Bernard Cribbins. It famously hosted Paul Whitehouse, Bob Mortimer was next door in our neighbouring cottage, Fisherman’s Cottage, for the a filming location of Mortimer & Whitehouse's: Gone Fishing Christmas Special. Perfect for two, Old Jack’s is an ideal base for exploring the village or walking the spectacular Cleveland Way, which passes right by the cottage. Free parking for one car directly outside the cottage makes arrival easy — a rare convenience in Staithes and a welcome alternative to the steep walk up from the public car park. Old Jack’s sleeps two and is arranged over two floors. Upstairs is a comfortable double bedroom with fresh 100% cotton bed linen, prepared just before your arrival. The bedroom has an ensuite shower room with walk-in shower, basin, loo, heated towel rail and fresh towels. Downstairs is a cosy beamed sitting room with a comfortable sofa and open fire, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring the coast or moors. There’s Wi-Fi and a TV with Freeview and Netflix, plus books, walking maps and local guides. The kitchen is compact but well equipped for cooking at home, whether that’s a simple breakfast before a walk or a relaxed supper in the evening. It includes a ceramic hob with oven and grill, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge with small ice box, and all the crockery, cookware and utensils you should need. Your stay includes: • Parking for one car directly outside the cottage (saving around £21.50 per night in the public car park) • 100% cotton bed linen and towels • Free Wi-Fi • TV with Freeview and Netflix • Electric heating in the sitting room and bedroom • Washing-up supplies, cleaning products and food wraps • Hand wash, kitchen roll and one toilet roll Coal and logs are not included, but we can recommend convenient places to pick them up on the way into the village. Staithes is a wonderfully atmospheric old fishing village full of winding ginnels, red-roofed cottages and working boats. You can spend your time exploring rockpools and fossils on the beach, wandering the tiny alleyways, browsing local galleries and craft shops, or discovering the fascinating fishing history of the village at Staithes Museum. The cottage sits on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, with endless walking, country pubs and dramatic coastal scenery. The seaside towns of Whitby, Saltburn and Scarborough are all within easy reach. Guest access You will have exclusive use of the entire cottage and the small terrace outside. Your parking permit allows you to park directly outside the cottage on Cowbar Bank, or on the staith below near the RNLI shop. Check-in is anytime after 3pm via a key safe by the front door. The access code will be provided before arrival. Other things to note We are happy to welcome one quiet, well-behaved dog at no extra cost, but please do not leave pets unattended in the cottage.
