The space A Historic Kasbah Overlooking the Dades Valley Citadelle des Gorges is a historic adobe kasbah, once a dominant stronghold, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the entire Dades Valley. Located in the heart of the Dades Gorges, it invites travelers to experience an authentic stay in southern Morocco, where history, nature and silence meet. All our rooms feature windows opening directly onto the Dades Valley, allowing guests to fully enjoy the changing light and colors of the landscape from sunrise to sunset. 🧱 Traditional Berber Architecture & Ancestral Building Techniques The kasbah was built using traditional Berber construction methods, relying exclusively on local, natural materials that define the architectural heritage of southern Morocco. Adobe Construction The walls are made from sun-dried adobe bricks, composed of earth, mud and straw. These natural bricks provide excellent thermal insulation and allow for the creation of structural walls, slender upper floors, pillars, arches and authentic decorative elements. Rammed Earth (Pisé) Another key technique is rammed earth, which consists of compacting moist earth (without straw) inside wooden formwork. Once a wall section is completed, the formwork is removed, leaving behind the characteristic holes of the wooden supports, a distinctive signature of rammed-earth architecture. 🎨 Natural Plasters & Traditional Maintenance Both interior and exterior walls and roofs are coated with a natural earth-and-straw plaster, maintained according to local traditions: interior surfaces are renewed approximately every six years terraces, exposed to the elements, are maintained almost annually 🌾 Traditional Ceilings The ceilings of Riad Dades are made from reeds laid over poplar wood beams, arranged in geometric patterns.
