Description

Cosy 1st floor king-size self-contained Hayloft studio, within a converted stable built c1750, with balcony views of the beautiful Elham Valley. Private garden; exclusive use of hot tub. Ensuite shower/Nespresso/kettle/microwave/full size fridge/parking/towels/dressing gowns/slippers, toiletries, light b/fast. Part of family home. Keybox check-in from 3pm. Few mins from The King's Arms (Kent Pub Year 2024) & many local vineyards and the Blue Silo micro pub. Fab dark skies for star gazing! The space Part of a beautiful farm conversion family home, with sweeping views across rolling farmland and grazing cattle. Enter the renovated Little Hayloft via a private entrance up a wooden staircase to find a fabulously stylish and fresh hideaway; the friendly owners will leave you tea and cake on arrival and a very light breakfast for the mornings. In the open-plan studio room, beneath cosy oak beams, are sympathetic furnishings including a king-size bed, a flat-screen TV, and a table and chairs for use indoors or out. Bedroom and shower room are spotless and spoiling with soft feathers and white cotton. There’s Wi-Fi for keeping in touch with the world…. or not. There's a second sitting space on the balcony outside for peaceful chats as the sun sets … and the sunsets are a glory. Later the dark skies offer amazing opportunities for star gazing! Outside: a neat fenced garden surrounded by hedging and masses of green space. Soak away your cares in the hot tub exclusively for your use. You have a gas BBQ for staying in. Follow a path down the lane through a small gate and you are on the Elham Valley Way footpath for going out. Excellent pubs (including the new Blue Silo micro pub for pop up food and live music) and a tea room are a longish walk or a short drive, or you can hop on a bus at the end of the lane to historic Canterbury, 'Rocksalt' in Folkestone, The Pig or the Bridge Arms at Bridge. The Old School Pizza van stops on Wednesdays in Lyminge and a fish and chips van stops at Sibton Park on Thursdays (see socials for details). Ideal as a stop-over en route to Europe or a romantic getaway! Only 15 minutes from the fully restored Folkestone Harbour Arm for live music, eats and drinks this beautiful part of Kent is a hidden gem surrounded by award winning vineyards and so close to London; why head west! Here's what BazaarUK's 'ella_alexander1' had to say about Folkestone: The Times recently named my beloved, scruffy Folkestone as the best place to live in South East England. Having grown up round the corner from it, I’m glad that the rest of the world is starting to see sense. Folkestone has changed a lot since I was young, but this little seaside town is showing everyone how to do gentrification without excluding the OG locals. I wrote ostensibly a travel guide for @bazaaruk on what to see, eat and do there, but really it’s just a love letter to one of my favourite places. If you’re at a loose end this weekend and fancy a day trip somewhere creative, gritty and pretty, head to Folkestone. Guest access Access is via a keybox - feel free to arrive when it suits you any time after 3.00pm on the day of arrival; no need to decide ahead of time or worry about clock-watching - with a strict 11.00am check out on the day of departure. Parking is available for one car on the shared driveway at the rear of the property. Please note that there is absolutely no parking on the farm track in front of the property. Other things to note HYGIENE We pride ourselves on our cleanliness and follow strict hygiene regimes including contactless check-in and out and enhanced cleaning. FEEDBACK We have listened to the feedback concerning being hard to find (it is quite rural!) and we encourage you to download the app 'what3words'! HISTORY Originally the stable block for Parsonage Farm (Parsonage Farmhouse is listed in the Domesday Book and is noted by historians for its Norman Undercroft) the oldest part of The Loft dates from the mid 1700s. Remains of the original horse stalls can still be seen together with one of the saddle racks. In places the mineral-filled bricks have been licked smooth by over-wintering calves. The upper part of the building contained the Hay Loft where straw and hay were stored through the winter to feed the animals below and to provide valuable insulation for young livestock. During the last century the outer wings were added to create more storage space - notably for the horse-drawn milk float which delivered fresh milk daily to the village and beyond. Right up until the late 1980s when the last Stableman, Wally Palmer, retired (well into his 90s) the building remained in use as part of the farm only then being sympathetically converted into a dwelling by his great niece. The present owners have been continuing the restoration since 1995. HOUSEKEEPING You may find it handy to know that all the major supermarkets deliver in this area. So if you'd like your shopping delivered here you can order direct with them on line in advance. There's no need to pack tea towels, dish cloths or washing up liquid as these are provided. Living in the beautiful surroundings of this conservation area we are committed to reducing our environmental impact where possible. We ask our guests to embrace the same principles during their stay. We ask for your understanding with the following: please carefully sort rubbish and recycling (paper and card in the black box, food in the small green bin, glass and plastic in the purple lidded bin). Despite the plentiful electricity supply coming from our solar panels we ask that this isn't wasted by turning off appliances (especially heaters) when going out and, lastly, being careful not to put anything down the lavatory which is not organic! We have an underground water filtration plant which processes sewage, but only sewage, and flushed indigestibles result in a loud alarm! No wet wipes, sanitary products, condoms etc PLEASE! We are extremely grateful for your co-operation. STAIRS Please do take great care on the outdoor staircase - particularly in wet weather. SMOKING We operate a STRICTLY no-smoking policy in the house, grounds, balcony and particularly in and around the Hot Tub.
