The Queen's Head

Description

The Queen’s Head is an award-winning 15th Century Free House nestling off the beaten track on the Upper Green in the picturesque conservation village of Hawkedon, the quintessential English Doomsday village with timber framed cottages, manor farm and tithe barns all surrounding the Lower Green with its walled Norman church. The space The Queen’s Head is a former coaching Inn and remains full of unique character and charm gloriously unaffected by the ravages of time, with low timbered ceilings, flagstone floors, scrubbed pine tables and various curios set against inglenook fireplaces sporting blazing log fires. The atmosphere is relaxed with a lively local ambience. We offer a superb selection of cask conditioned ales, traditional ciders, an extensive fine wine list and an excellent and imaginative seasonal menu. As a West Suffolk CAMRA Pub of the Year we’re also featured in the Good Beer Guide, the Good Cider Guide and a number of walking guides. Please take a look at our web-site for the bar and restaurant opening hours. Although the menu changes daily and weekly we’ve listed examples of what you might expect to find if you visit under the headings Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter. On the accommodation front we have two luxuriously appointed apartments each comprising a double bedroom, lounge area with kitchenette and bathroom. The lounges both have a cosy sitting area together with a television and dvd player. The bedrooms each have a queen bed and a television. Both kitchen areas are fitted with a hob, oven, microwave, fridge and sink together with tea and coffee making facilities. The larger beamed Medieval Hall Apartment offers a free-standing cast iron bath whilst the rear Stable Loft Apartment has a boutique shower. There is separate access to the accommodation which can also be reached from the main building during opening hours. Please note that the staircase to the first floor is steep and the Medieval Hall Apartment has low doorways and beams. Tea, coffee and milk are supplied along with a self-served continental type breakfast in your room comprising muesli, bread, butter and jam. A cooked breakfast may be available by prior arrangement at additional cost on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.
