Cottage in Carperby

Built in 1800, Corner Cottage is in Carperby in the heart of Wensleydale. Pet-free again from 2026, it retains key period features, including flagstone and wooden floors; window recesses and seats; a traditional stone larder (used as the utility and boot room); a large stone fireplace with wood burning stove; and a walled garden with a patio, seating areas and flower beds. It's a tranquil place - perfect for getting away from it all. There's wifi too, and a welcome pack (wine, milk and treats). The space An internal porch leads into the kitchen, including a dining area, and to the pantry, then to the living room. Most rooms have wooden shuttered windows. Upstairs, the house bathroom has a roll-top bath and separate shower. The master bedroom is en-suite, with a king-sized bed; and the double bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe. Both rooms and the en-suite have lovely views across to Penhill. The third bedroom – small but beautifully appointed – is ideal for a child or an adult up to 5’ 4” tall. There is a small lobby at the bottom of the stairs, with a back door to the walled garden. The garden – at its most spectacular in June and July – has outdoor seating and a table on the patio, a lawn and two further seating areas. You’re welcome to pick flowers and herbs. A garage, useful for storing bikes, houses a parasol and a barbecue. The cottage is very well-equipped, especially for cooks, including a dishwasher and food processor. There's no parking immediately outside the cottage, but you can pull up to unload on one of the turnings off the main road across from the house. There are parking spaces in the centre of the village, adjacent to the market cross, and a few spaces parallel to the main road, outside the Friends' Meeting House (this is much the best spot as it's close to the house - it's where we park). Further spaces are available on the main road east of the market cross. Corner Cottage is old. It has 200 year-old features that include a flagstone staircase, so may not be suitable for unsupervised tinies. It also fronts straight onto the road through Carperby, so care must be taken when leaving and entering the house. Guest access Bookings are for the entire house. Other things to note As well as adhering to Airbnb's cleaning protocol, we now provide hand sanitiser and extra cleaning supplies to help guests feel more safe. This part of Wensleydale is primarily a farming community, so there may be mud on the road, cows mooing on nearby farms and countryside smells. Arrival day: Friday. Minimum booking period: 7 days. Bookings taken only in weekly blocks (i.e. 7, 14, 21 and 28 days).
