Description
Brook Farm is a Grade II* listed farmhouse in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, set in three acres of gardens with a games room barn, hot tub and wild swimming pond. The house has four double bedrooms, a large lounge with log fire, dining room, farmhouse kitchen, bathroom and wet room. The space Brook Farm is a stunning Grade II* listed Elizabethan Yeoman’s farmhouse built around 1540, with an adjoining Grade II listed barn, set in three acres of gardens and orchards, surrounded by rural land. The main house, renovated in partnership with English Heritage, retains many of the original features, complimented by interior design featuring an eclectic mix of contemporary, antique and vintage. Brook Farm is stylish yet homely, practical yet supremely comfortable. The large lounge has two sofas, a wood burner to keep you cosy and a flat screen TV for those slouchy movie nights. The vintage sideboard is filled with a selection of games for those young and old(er). The dining room has a large dining table which seats 10, a wood burner and Sonos speakers to make your dinner party extra special. The kitchen is a large farmhouse kitchen with a beautiful brick chimney enclosing a large range cooker. The kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso and all the essentials including sharp knives and a wide selection of herbs and spices. At the centre of the room is a table to seat six, perfect for tea and toast. Beyond the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine, large fridge and small drinks fridge. Beyond the utility room is a recently renovated wet room with walk-in shower and a view over the rear garden. A wooden door leads outside to a large patio space overlooking the wild swimming pond and gardens, with an outside dining table and benches to seat 10 people and a Webber BBQ. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms with wooden floorboards and original beams. The master bedroom is large with windows on three sides, a stunning place to wake up in the morning. There are a further three double bedrooms, each with their own sumptuous style; the French room, the Deco room and the Emerald room. All the bedrooms have memory foam mattresses, feather pillows and duvets, and pure French linen bedding for a wonderful night’s sleep. At the end of the long beam filled landing there is a bathroom with a deep roll top bath - perfect for a long soak with a good book and a glass of wine. Across the courtyard from the farmhouse, the Grade II listed barn houses a games room, the perfect hang out space with table tennis, a pool table, a table football table, darts and a chill out area with sofas and a music system. Please note that this is an ancient barn and it has not been converted so it’s rough round the edges and can be a little damp in the colder months. But we love using it all year round. Mature gardens surround the house and barns, extending over three acres. At the heart of the land is a large pond, which has been converted for wild swimming. There is a jetty out to the middle, with a ladder to climb back out after your swim. Next to the pond is a wood fired ten-person hot tub, perfect for a soak as the sun sets or at night listening to the owls. Across the rest of the land there are extensive lawns, a football pitch, a fire pit area and a selection of fruit trees; apples, pears, cherries, plums, blackberries and walnut. Of course, being in the countryside, we are surrounded by nature with frequent visitors including muntjac deer, rabbits, hares, ducks, doves, woodpeckers, owls, bats and even peacocks. Guest access The whole property Other things to note The staircase is spiral and fairly steep, with no handrail. Please speak to Mel if you have any concerns about the booking. The beds will be made up for two people per room (in double/king beds) unless by prior arrangement. Please note that the rental is for 8 guests. We can accommodate 10 but there is an additional charge of £50 per person per night. We welcome dogs but politely ask that all dog mess is cleared up from the garden and that dogs remain downstairs and off all the furniture. We have a wonderful team of cleaners who ensure that the house is perfect for our guests' arrival. We had a couple of negative comments from challenging guests in 2023 suggesting that the house wasn't clean, but if you read the reviews after this, you will see that all our visitors have been very happy. But shout if you have any questions.
