Want to experience what life in Nicaragua is like off the beaten track? Then come and visit us on the romantic Rio San Juan. With us, you can discover local rural life. Learn how chocolate is made, milk cows and make cheese, or go fishing and wildlife watching. The place is ideal for nature lovers who want to enjoy the tropical flora and fauna in the lush garden and cacao forest. (Breakfast for two people included in the price) The space You'll stay in a comfortable cabaña surrounded by our lush garden overlooking the cacao plantation. The accommodation is easily accessible from the road and only about a 15-minute walk from the San Juan River. A delicious breakfast with fresh produce from our farm awaits you in the morning. Additional meals are also available upon request. On our chocolate farm tour, you'll experience firsthand how chocolate is made. We are also happy to organize boat trips for fishing or guided hikes for wildlife viewing in a nearby nature reserve. For those seeking adventure, we're happy to take you to our finca for cow milking and cheese making. Horse lovers can look forward to an unforgettable experience with a sunset ride overlooking the Rio San Juan. From here, you can easily continue by bus and boat to El Castillo, where you can take excursions to the Indio Maíz Reserve or night tours to spot caimans. The nearest village, "La Esperanza," is 3 km away (45 minutes walking or 10 minutes by bus). There are various shopping and dining options available here. A fruit truck comes by several days a week. Guest access For your orientation: Our finca can be found on Google Maps under "We love Cacao." Locals know us more commonly as "Casa de Chocolate". Both names appear on a sign at our driveway. Directions from San Carlos: Buses to Sábalos or Buena Vista depart several times a day and stop right in front of our house. Tell them your destination "Los Ranchos, La Casa del Chocolate." If you choose the more scenic route by boat, please indicate the "Hotel Grand River Lodge" exit when purchasing your ticket. From there, it's about a 1.5 km walk along a stone path to us. If you let us know your arrival time in advance, we can also pick you up from the river. Arrival by car (or taxi) is also possible. However, the road can be quite adventurous during the rainy season. High tire level is recommended; four-wheel drive is not required. You can park your car safely in our driveway. The price for a taxi from San Carlos is negotiable and usually ranges from 1,500 Córdobas. If arriving from Costa Rica: From the "Los Chiles / Las Tablillas" border crossing, take a shared taxi or a minibus to the "Empalme San Pancho". There, take one of the buses heading to Sábalos or Buena Vista and follow the directions above. :-)
