Osdale Farmhouse is reached by an unmade road unsuitable for low cars, and nestles beneath the Macleod’s Tables, two flat topped mountains that dominate the north west of Skye. The chief Macleod originally built the stone built farmhouse in 1870s for Donald ’Osdale’ who farmed a huge flock of sheep on the surrounding clan land. It fell into ruin on his death and was only rebuilt in 2006 by the previous owners. It is now a comfortable cottage that retains much of its original character and charm. A great place to sit, unwind and enjoy the far-reaching views or get outside and enjoy the walks from the doorstep. Today Osdale Farmhouse enjoys a modern standard, whilst retaining its highland character and charm. The open plan living areas benefit from underfloor heating and the living room has a large fireplace with a wood burner to relax by when the evenings draw in. The kitchen is a well-equipped, sociable place with a large practical boot room leading off it providing plenty of room for coats, muddy kit and muddy dogs. The farmhouse continues to be surrounded by sheep and cattle and is visited by wildlife that includes red deer and eagles. If you stay at the right time you can help yourself to the wild raspberries that grow on the plot and sit amongst the colourful fuchsias. Your only neighbour is Osdale Byre, which is at the other end of the same generous plot and the owners who live nearby and are happy to help with any queries you may have. Otherwise, the cottage sits on its own amongst the stunning landscape, making it a remarkable spot to enjoy the Highlands. However, it is easy to get to civilisation again and the cottage is close to some of Skye’s best restaurants, Dunvegan is readily accessible where you can explore the castle and visit the local shops and cafés. North west Skye offers plenty of outdoor activities including climbing and coasteering. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles. Osdale Farmhouse can be booked together with Osdale Byre (UK5851) to accommodate up to 8 guests.
