Historic small-town setting with rich American history dating back to the late 1800s. Lots of local entertainment including shops, variety of locally owned restaurants, night-life with live music and events, and museums showcasing the town’s extensive history. Legendary sledding hill that drives visitors from ski resorts. Trust us, it’s epic. Charming neighborhood 3 blocks from the nearest bars, shops and restaurants. Half mile to mineral belt trailhead with excellent casual or ambitious hiking and biking in the summer, snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing in the winter. The location is a perfect blend of quiet at home on a corner lot with privacy, with a short walk to small-town restaurants and nightlife. Not a skier or hiker? Hit up the local gym or yoga studio — all walking distance. And don’t worry, there are liquor stores in town too :-). Walk or bike to anywhere. Leadville is small and the house is in town, 3 blocks from the main street (Harrison Ave) restaurants and shops. Parking out front. Commuter bus to and from Frisco stops 2 blocks away. Skiing: 18 min to Ski Cooper, 30 min on a well-plowed route to Copper, 50 min to Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone. Famous sledding hill in town down the street — visitors come from Breck and major resorts to Leadville for the sledding. .5 mile from the Mineral Belt Trail. Most things in town are walkable. 1. Fence will not contain your bigger pup — 2.5 ft. high in the front, shorter in winter after snow builds up. 2. DRUG AND SMOKE-FREE home. Absolutely no smoking (cigarettes, weed, anything else you come up with) anything. Absolutely any evidence of smoking in the home (smell, smoke damage, butts) will result in a MINIMUM fine of $450 for extra cleaning and damages. We have enforced this before, and will not hesitate to do so again. 3. This is also our personal 2nd home which we live in 4 months per year. We share it to help us to afford a wonderful mountain town life. In our first years of ownership, we chose to invest first in comfortable furniture and modern technology. Our beds and bedding are new and cozy, we have a large TV, fast and reliable Internet, self-check-in door locks, solid heating and water pressure, a beautiful deck, and new appliances. 4. By contrast, we have not yet attended to cosmetic needs such as but not limited to ugly old wallpaper and dinged-up old baseboard trim. We decided that these were unlikely to negatively impact our guests and will work on them slowly as we make the Getaway our own. We want to be forthcoming with you to make sure that you are comfortable when you choose the Getaway! If cosmetics such as freshly painted walls are important to you, our historic home is not your best choice. 5. KIDS: We provide bunk beds, a booster/highchair, a Pack & Play portable crib, a bathtub, and games and toys for kids. We have guests who bring children and we are happy to host families. We do NOT guarantee a childproof home. 6. The new deck has a 33" (just shy of 3 ft) drop from the edge at its highest side. Landing is grass/snow. If you've had a few too many Key Lights or have small children, maybe steer clear from the edge ;-). If a 33" drop stresses you out, then we recommend either avoiding the deck or considering a different home for your Leadville stay. Thank you! ---------------------- Transparency on Fees: The cleaning fee is the exact amount we are charged by our cleaning crew (sometimes less if excessive cleaning is required), who is a local Leadville small business that pays fair wages. Leadville charges a city lodging tax, which is also in the listing. That fee goes directly to the city of Leadville, with no markup. The "pet" fee helps offset the inevitable extra damage and hair cleaning that we pay extra for. It's not fair to charge it to everyone, so we focus only on those with pets. The "extra guests" fee is per night, per guest for more than 4 guests in the house. That offsets the significant extra wear and tear on the laundry (during cleaning - lots more beds and linens to clean), plumbing, trash, and home overall. Again, we felt it’s not fair to hike up rates for every reservation, so it seemed more favorable to charge a little extra for larger parties to offset the extra costs of more bodies in the home. The cancellation policy will be adhered to. Our apologies for this new change. Guests would book our home for a significant period (like a month), then change last minute to 3-4 days, which significantly impacted us. As a result, the cancellation policy we have now will be enforced. Our apologies for how this impacts all of our wonderful guests!
