Mainers call lake homes “camps,” but there is nothing “campy” about this 3-story house on 5 acres directly on Porter Lake. Swim all day long! Enjoy views of Saddleback Mountain from the private beach and dock; fish for trout or bass; or bring your boat and explore the island with its famous rope swing. Listen to the call of the loons, watch for bald eagles living on the island, and maybe if you’re lucky you’ll see a deer—or even a moose. Enjoy your stay at Sweetwater Cottage! Home available for weekly rentals (Sunday to Sunday) and long-term rentals. • The upper story has two bedrooms, with the master overlooking the field that leads down to the lake. The sunset views from this bedroom are quite stunning. • On the main level you will enjoy: o Galley kitchen: stocked with Keurig, microwave, 20” stove, and refrigerator. (Also in the kitchen is the hide-away ironing board.) Stainless steel four burner grill with side burner. o Two full bathrooms: newly renovated tub/shower combo o Separate pantry area: storage galore! Plenty of room for all of your groceries and other sundries. o Living room: the wood-burning rock fireplace is the heart of the home. The rocks in this fireplace were hand-gathered by Florence Jackson, the original homeowner, from all over the world. This fireplace is a place where travelers can gather to enjoy a peaceful fireside evening. • The lower level has its own separate entrance and patio, with two twin beds, and a private sink. o Parking for multiple cars available. o Ramp to front door for wheelchair, walker, stroller accessibility o Please park on the gravel parking area. Kindly do not drive on the field; the septic tank is buried there and will crack--and leak! Our property manager, Helen, is a Maine local and lives next door year-round with her husband. Sweetwater Cottage is a “camp” located on Porter Lake in the town of New Vineyard, Maine…population 752 at last count. 15 minutes away is the town of Farmington, which has restaurants, shopping, and a branch of the University of Maine. Car rentals are available from Enterprise Car Rental who can pick you up from the cottage. Uber is also available. ACTIVIES ON THE PROPERTY & IN THE AREA o Enjoy the fire pit down by the lake and our relaxing hammock swings. o Fish from the dock or bring your own boat (tie up at our private dock...the boat launch is located at the swimming hole walkable from the cottage) and explore the lake, inlets, and maybe even find a beaver dame. o Hiking, biking, mountain biking, moose-watching o Guided nature tours are available from local companies o Fish for landlocked salmon, bass, trout, and pickerel, etc. during the summer, or try your hand at ice-fishing in the winter. o Fishing, hunting, trapping information (including information on the moose and deer lotteries) are available at maine.gov. o There are three amazing ski areas located within 20-60 minutes of the cottage at Titcomb, Sugarloaf, and Saddleback mountains--including the longest vertical run in New England! These mountains boast year-round activities. o Golf available at Saddleback.
