The house is situated in Alájar, at the heart of the natural park “Parque Natural sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche”, a beautiful hilly area with ages old cork oaks. This sunny and green part of Andalusia is haven for walkers and nature lovers. This part of Spain is haven for walkers, nature lovers and sun worshippers Alájar is a pretty village, with typical white houses, winding streets and cosy bars, restaurants and terrases offering the best local products as wild mushrooms, much prized Iberican pig, cheese and desserts made with chestnuts…. High above the village towers the “Peña de Arias Montano” a craffy cliff with a sixteenth century hermitage on the peak. Several short marked walks start from the village, as well as the Long distance (GR) and short distance (PR) trails. There are maps of the walks available in the house. The beautiful city of Seville is at only a short hour and a half’s drive, and Aracena, the main town in the park, is only a fifteen minute drive along scenic roads. Aracena has fine thirteenth century church, built on a hill by the Knights Templar, who were given dominion over the area in 1267. Beneath this hill crowned by the church, lies the “Gruta de las Maravillas” (Cave Of Wonders), one of Spain’s most impressive caves.
