Suitable for 1-2 adults, 2-21 days. Inquire if interested in tour of backyard gardens. The space This "GI Bill" neighborhood was carved out of bean fields after WWII, with an eye on young veterans headed back to school. My property, developed in 1950, features hardwood floors, coved ceilings, glass block details and a huge fenced yard. I bought the place in 2001 and have since undertaken several large projects. * In 03-04 I extended the kitchen, captured the garage for a large, light library and added a front deck. This effort was led by architect/builder Dave Beardsley and really opened up the interior space and made it more welcoming, comfortable and private. * Around the same time I worked with landscaper Joshua Smith to design a productive, beautiful and organically managed ecosystem for my outdoor spaces. The backyard now sports a small orchard, raised beds, tool sheds, a working swale with a bridge over it and a sunny little separate building variously used as a sewing room, art studio and rehearsal space. (Inquire if interested in using this locked and wired workspace for an additional fee.) * In 2016 I hired architect Will Dixon to plan the addition I'm offering here on Airbnb. BioBuilders, out of Blue River, did the contract work, and my longtime handyman, Pat Clancy, helped me finish. Guest access There's a new gated path of decomposed granite to guest quarters. This private entrance includes two steps and a small cedar deck which you're welcome to enjoy at will. The larger back yard with its raised beds, orchard, swale, patio and art studio, is private. If you're interested in a tour of the gardens and/or want to take pictures, please ask at time of booking. Other things to note Guest cooking is limited to the apartment's microwave and electric kettle. I provide starter amounts of coffee and tea, breakfast bars, fresh fruit, yogurt and bottled water as well as dishes and cutlery. An area of stores, eateries and service stations is a few blocks away. Within a few miles guests will find a wide variety of take-out and dining options -- from frugal to extravagant.
