La Conner-Kahlo Cottage-Good Vibes w/Water View!

La Conner's Kahlo Cottage is an inviting eclectic space surrounded by evergreens and only steps to the beach. This part of the neighborhood is rural-ish, with a friendly vibe. The quaint waterfront town of La Conner is a short 8 minute drive where you will find art, culture, restaurants and great shops to explore. Whether you're on a solo adventure, enjoying time as a couple, or exploring the area with a friend or family member, Kahlo Cottage is the perfect place to relax and enjoy! The space Kahlo Cottage is tucked in among tall pines at the bottom of a little hill. It doesn't get much of any "traffic" since the little street is a dead end a few houses down. It is across the street from the houses that sit above the water and there is public beach access/stairs just a few steps away. From the house and the slightly elevated property it sits on, you have a beautiful view over the roofs and through the trees of the water and Hope Island, directly across the water. Hope Island is small and uninhabited but full of nature and fun explore if you have a kayak or small boat. You will also get to see some amazing sunsets from the Cottage! Inside the 400 plus square foot somewhat rustic cottage you will discover an open floor plan, (aside from the bathroom). The decor is colorful and eclectic, with lots of vintage treasures. The kitchen side provides you with everything you will need to prepare food, cook food, and eat food! There is an apartment sized real stove/oven, as well as an apartment sized refrigerator. Additional appliances such as a microwave, toaster (on shelf under the microwave) and drip coffee maker are also there for your convenience. We even have a french press should you prefer to use it, as well as a tea infuser and lots of choices of tea bags too! Pots, pans, dishes, drinking and wine glasses, cutlery, etc. is provided as well. There are even cloth napkins and candles for a bit of added ambiance! The little kitchen table is a drop leaf, so it takes up minimal space in the center of the room. It is also easy to move aside so that you can spread out a yoga mat to begin your morning by saying Namaste! The queen size bed is sooooo comfy and is adorned with comforters, blankets and shams from one of my favorite stores (Anthropologie) There are plenty of extra throw blankets to snuggle up with while watching a movie, or just relaxing in the living area on the little settee with a good book. There is a television at the cottage which has a Rokku device set up so that if you have accounts such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc you can access and watch movies and shows by logging into one of your accounts. There is a small desk in front of one of the windows that will provide you a space to sit and use for tasks (if you have to bring your work with you!) and there is of course wifi and internet connection. The bathroom is separate with a regular door that closes for privacy. There is a shower stall, toilet, and sink. It is well stocked with cotton towels, shampoo, soap, paper products, and even a hair dryer. While there is no closet in the cottage, there is a dresser with drawers you can utilize and a standing coat rack that you can hang your coats and sweaters on. Just outside the back door there is a small shed where we keep outdoor folding lounge chairs, and outside the back door there is also a portable propane bbq. You will also find a hammock (kept in the little shed) and fire pit (please be mindful of burn bans during warmer/dry months). While there is no AC unit, the cottage is located close to the water, is facing west, and is surrounded by tall trees. Even in the warmest months, it is rarely too hot in the cottage. Aside from the windows that open, there is a front and back door that also both have screen doors that provide ample air flow. I like to call Kahlo "the perfectly imperfect cabin". Those that seek modern, new, and high tech may not appreciate the quirky uniqueness of the space, and if so, this may not be the right space to truly enjoy. Guest access Guests have full access to the home and the property. You will also have access to the main beach area down the road (signs say private property but you are a guest and allowed full access!) boat launch (should you be bringing along a boat or kayaks) and the tennis court! These amenities are just down the road from the cottage, an easy 4 minute walk. (The boat launch and tennis court use the same key--located in the desk drawer.). If you park in the parking lot, there is a parking pass in the desk drawer to display in your car. There is a large fire pit in back of the property (besides the average size one we have provided) that is built into the ground. That fire pit belongs to a neighbor and is not actually on our property, (although it looks as if it is since there is no fence) so we ask that you only use the one we have provided. Other things to note The neighborhood is generally quiet and peaceful, but I cannot anticipate people's home projects or other potential noises that sometimes happen in a neighborhood setting. During warmer months, neighbors may be outside, enjoying their own outdoor spaces. There is also a naval base across the water in Oak Harbor, and occasionally (not daily) there may be sounds of jets practicing flight paths. Disposable ear plugs and a sound machine are provided, should you be sensitive to noise. While I wouldn't categorize the cottage as a "tiny house", it is still considered to be small--400 sq ft. When creating this airbnb, overall comfort has been taken into consideration for all guests. The layout and flow of the cottage works well. This is in part due to the smaller, yet still considered comfortable pieces of furniture, while also allowing for a queen bed. The space itself would be swallowed up by a full size sofa. Even a regular size loveseat or reclining chair significantly reduces the floorpan, and would create a space with no room to move about. If you identify yourself as a large or exceptionally tall person, the settee and side chairs may not be as comfortable as something you would have chosen for your own home. Please keep this in mind when making a decision to stay at the cottage. I ask that if you smoke, you do so only outside and be mindful of putting out cigarettes in appropriate receptacles to prevent any potential fire danger. If you use the fire pit, please do not leave the fire unattended. Be mindful of burn bans. Please take care of the cottage as if it were your own. Let me know if something has broken or of any other mishap that needs attention. If you intend to go kayaking or boating, please be aware that the tides and currents can be unpredictable and often catch people off guard when they assess the potential danger by merely looking out over the water. It is important that you get the most updated/current information as to the tides and weather before heading out on your adventure.
